Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band Addictions Counsellor - Diploma $29.584 to $36.176

As a member of the Interdisciplinary Team, and under the general direction of the Addictions Counsellor - Degree (Alcohol & Addictions services worker), the primary goal will be to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues by implementing various modalities of addiction recovery programs. Responsibilities include providing informational programming as well as individual and group counselling sessions with clients. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Education

  • Chemical Dependency diploma

Experience

  • Inpatient services and/or harm reduction setting is required

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge in addiction(s) and their effects on family units
  • Ability to accurately assess addiction(s) and make appropriate recovery plans.
  • Ability to screen for addictions and/or addiction related symptoms
  • Knowledge in group dynamics
  • Knowledge of screening and addiction assessment tools and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of a Holistic Addiction Treatment Model
  • Knowledge in best practices in addictions and harm reduction strategies
  • Knowledge of community resources in the addictions field.
  • Ability to deliver workshops and lecture material to clients and community
  • Work collaboratively w/ a multidisciplinary team & other agencies in the commnty
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to organize work load demands
