Department

OBHS Mental Health Pro-Fee

This physician has completed residency training in psychiatry and fellowship training in addiction psychiatry and provides addiction and general psychiatric care throughout Behavioral Health Services. This care may include correctional, inpatient, outpatient, medical, and emergency settings. This physician diagnoses and treats adolescents and adults with complex, co-occurring medical, psychiatric and substance use disorders and health-related social needs such as homelessness and poverty. Addiction psychiatrists educate trainees and support continuous quality improvement and Learning Health System work.

Essential Functions

  • Obtains relevant medical histories, makes appropriate diagnoses, implements and directs effective psychiatric treatments. (90%)
  • Educates learners from various disciplines. (5%)
  • Supports continuous quality improvement and Denver Health as a Learning Health System (5%)


Education

  • Doctorate Degree Graduate of an accredited medial school. Required and
  • Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate Program Successful completion of a psychiatric residency Required and
  • Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate Program Successful completion of a fellowship in addiction psychiatry Required and
  • Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate Program Board-certification in general and addiction psychiatry Required


Work Experience

Licenses

  • MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required and
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 1. Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.

    2. Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.

    3. Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.

    4. Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.

    5. Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.

    6. Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.

    7. Performs in a tactful and professional manner.

    8. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

    9. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
