Job Description

Addiction Counselor

Samaritan Daytop Village is a leading human services organization in New York State serving over 38,000 New Yorkers annually across more than 60 locations through Transitional Housing, Community Based Services, and Residential and Outpatient programs. First Steps Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center (ICSC), operated by Samaritan Daytop Village in Rockland County, is a 24/7 program dually licensed by OMH and OASAS to provide rapid, short-term support for children ages 5+ and adults in mental health or substance use crisis. Our multidisciplinary team utilizes a trauma-informed, harm-reduction framework to stabilize individuals and connect them with long-term care while avoiding unnecessary emergency room visits.

We are seeking a dedicated Addiction Counselor (CASAC) to join a multidisciplinary team focused on providing comprehensive substance use disorder assessment, stabilization, and integrated care. This role involves delivering evidence-based individual and group counseling through the lenses of harm reduction and trauma-informed care, while actively supporting clients with overdose prevention and education on medications for addiction treatment. The successful candidate will manage person-centered discharge planning and coordinate with peer specialists and medical providers to ensure seamless transitions to long-term recovery services. This position requires an OASAS CASAC-T or full CASAC credential and a strong commitment to delivering compassionate, non-stigmatizing support to individuals navigating co-occurring disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts substance use disorder assessments and develops comprehensive treatment plans tailored to physical and psychosocial needs
  • Delivers individual and group counseling using motivational interviewing, CBT, and trauma-informed approaches
  • Facilitates client engagement in decision-making and provides education on medications for addiction treatment and overdose prevention
  • Manages referrals and discharge planning by coordinating with medical providers, recovery housing, and outpatient programs
  • Monitors patient progress and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and family members to remove barriers to recovery
  • Maintains accurate clinical documentation in electronic health records according to OASAS and federal regulatory standards
  • Partners with peer specialists and clinical leadership to support long-term stabilization and recovery identity

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required with a preferred degree in human services or behavioral health
  • Current New York State OASAS CASAC or CASAC-T credential with a path toward full certification
  • Minimum of one year of experience in substance use disorder treatment or a related human services field
  • Proficiency in the DSM-5-TR and ASAM criteria for conducting clinical assessments
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices including motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and providing support for co-occurring disorders
  • Understanding of medications for addiction treatment and non-stigmatizing education practices
  • Familiarity with electronic health records and compliance with federal confidentiality regulations

Additional Information

This is a full-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $27.47-$32.06 (annualized at 35 hours a week to $50,000-$58,350) with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, an option for daily pay, and tuition reimbursement.

This role is located in Blauvelt, NY.
