The incumbent will provide clinical addiction services to a primarily adult population however as necessary and appropriate, they may provide services to youth as well. The primary goal of this position is to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help with substance use problems by implementing various modalities of addiction recovery therapies. These services will be delivered through a combination of direct services, consultation, community resource development and education. Responsibilities include providing informational programming, individual and group counselling with relevant family and community members, assessing individual and group needs of clients and implementing treatment plans to assist clients in reaching their recovery goals. The incumbent assists with the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of Addiction Services. Other related services include community education & development and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

Education

  • Degree in Addiction Counseling or another Degree acceptable to the Employer

Licenses

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

  • Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF)

  • Ability to engage in community program consultation.

  • Ability to provide counseling and therapy to individuals, couples and groups
  • Knowledge in co-current disorders and issues related to gambling addictions
  • Ability to prioritize work
  • Knowledge in mental health and addictions and concurrent medical conditions
  • Knowledge of community resources including treatment programs & support agencies
  • Knowledge in addictions screening, assessment tools and procedures
  • Knowledge of chemical dependency/co-dependency and effect on the family unit.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidential information
  • Ability to engage in resource development within the community.
  • Proficient in case management skills and client follow-up
  • Ability to interview clients where sensitive/emotional information may be shared
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Ability to conduct a suicide risk assessment with other health care providers
  • Knowledge in counselling practices for concurrent mental health/substance abuse
  • Ability to multitask
  • Knowledge of local human service organizations, resources & referral procedures
  • Ability to conduct assessments/prioritize client needs/develop treatment plans
  • Knowledge of program planning process
  • Proven ability to collaborate and partner with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to collect, record, report comprehensive client information accurately
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships/partnerships
  • Knowledge in Developmental Model of Recovery
  • Knowledge in assessment, treatment, and consultation
  • Ability to develop, evaluate and modify programming provided to clients
  • Ability to assess and treat clients as a part of the interdisciplinary MHAS team
  • Knowledge in applicable tools and techniques of research
