Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct care givers. Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments. Registered Nurse (RN) – Family Birthplace – Nights

Mercy Hospital Ada – Ada, Oklahoma

Employment Type: Full-Time (36 hours a week)

Shift: Night Shift 7pm to 7am

Position Overview

Mercy Hospital Ada is seeking a compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Family Birthplace team. Family Birthplace nurses provide specialized care for mothers and newborns throughout labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and newborn care. This role offers the opportunity to support families during some of life's most meaningful moments while working alongside an experienced interdisciplinary team dedicated to exceptional patient outcomes.

Family Birthplace RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to mothers and newborns throughout the childbirth experience
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
  • Monitor maternal and fetal well-being and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
  • Administer medications, treatments, and nursing interventions according to physician orders and evidence-based practice
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, lactation consultants, and other healthcare team members
  • Educate patients and families regarding labor, delivery, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and discharge planning
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
  • Advocate for patient safety, patient rights, and a positive birth experience
  • Perform duties and responsibilities consistent with Mercy's mission, values, and service standards

Unit Details – Family Birthplace

  • Approximately 30 births per month with continued growth opportunities
  • LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum) model of care
  • AWHONN staffing guidelines followed, including 1:1 care for active labor patients and 2:1 care for early labor patients
  • Postpartum nurse-to-patient ratio of 6:1
  • Cares primarily for obstetrical patients beginning at 35 weeks gestation
  • Onsite nursery services available
  • Cross-training provided in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Nursery nursing

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program (Associate Degree, Diploma, or BSN)
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oklahoma or Compact State RN License
  • Ability to meet all Oklahoma State Board of Nursing requirements
  • Completion of Mercy-required competencies, education, and certifications within designated timeframes
  • BLS and other required certifications as assigned by the department

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Mother/Baby, Nursery, Women's Services, or Newborn Care
  • BLS, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate
