Summary

JOB SUMMARY: Coordinates and oversees the College's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as they relate to students, student programs, services, activities, and academic accommodations. The ADA Coordinator serves as the College's primary resource for student disability accommodation and accessibility matters and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external agencies to ensure equal access to educational opportunities. Responsibilities include reviewing disability documentation, engaging in the interactive process with students, determining appropriate accommodations, coordinating auxiliary aids and services, addressing student accessibility concerns, and promoting institutional compliance with applicable federal and state laws. Human Resources maintains primary responsibility for employee accommodation and employee-related ADA matters, with consultation and collaboration provided by the ADA Coordinator as appropriate.

Direct Supervisory Responsibility: Yes

Exercise supervisory responsibility for one part-time employee, including scheduling, work assignments, time approval, performance evaluations, coaching, and addressing performance and attendance issues.

Examples of duties

Primary Assignment: ADA Coordination and Student Accessibility Services constitute the primary responsibilities of this position.

Secondary Assignment: Admissions and Records functions may be assigned as needed under the direction of the Director of Admissions and Records/Registrar to support operational needs of the department.

ADA Coordinator Duties

  • Ensure compliance with relevant federal/state laws governing ADA
  • Interpret federal/state laws and regulations to develop and implement policies, procedures, brochures, and publications related to the Student Disabilities Services
  • Develop, implement, and oversee accommodation plans for qualified students. Provide consultation and technical assistance to Human Resources regarding employee accommodation matters, as requested.
  • Coordinate reasonable and appropriate ADA and Section 504 accommodations for qualified students based on disability documentation, eligibility determinations, and the interactive process.
  • Human Resources is responsible for coordinating employee accommodation requests and related interactive processes
  • Collaborate with the Title IX Coordinator on matters involving overlapping ADA, Section 504, and Title IX considerations to ensure coordinated, equitable, and legally compliant resolutions of accessibility, discrimination, harassment, and accommodation concerns.
  • Communicate accommodations with faculty effectively
  • Help students obtain equipment or resources to aid them in the educational experience
  • Receive, review, and coordinate the resolution of student ADA and accessibility complaints, grievances, and concerns involving academic programs, services, facilities, and instructional access.
  • Represent the College at meetings involving disability issues
  • Travel between all campuses to provide ADA services as needed
  • Coordinate the activities of Sign-Language Interpreters for deaf students
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver ADA and accessibility awareness training for faculty, staff, and students in collaboration with Human Resources and other institutional departments.
  • Maintain secure and confidential ADA records
  • Serve as liaison to disability service agencies/providers
  • Maintain systematic and frequent contact with appropriate personnel regarding registration, advisement, academic status, and other necessary college information for students with disabilities receiving accommodation
  • Proctor exams for eligible students as needed
  • Monitor current research and trends in areas related to serving students with disabilities and implement best practices as appropriate
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the College community

Admissions & Records Duties

  • Enter and maintain admissions and records data in software systems
  • Process student forms submitted to Admissions & Records
  • Data Management for enrollment reporting

Additional Duties

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the College community
  • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an approved U.S. Department of Education accredited institution, required, preferably in higher education
  • Two (2) years of full-time administrative-related work experience in counseling, education, student services, or similar experience required, preferably in higher education

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with students with disabilities and administrating provisions of ADA, preferred
  • Experience with alternative media and adaptive/assistive technology and software preferred.
  • Experience conducting interactive accommodation processes and managing confidential disability-related records preferred.
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal disability laws and regulations in an educational Rehabilitation Act.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively address and resolve disputes when necessary
  • Ability to understand rules and regulations applicable to the Americans with Disability Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • Ability to develop, implement, present and promote programs that benefit the College community, specifically, programs that promote the awareness of ADA
  • Knowledge of student services including registration, counseling, testing, ADA/504, and student success
  • Proven leadership skills

PROJECTED STARTING DATE:

October 2026

SALARY: Salary Schedule E1,02, ($52,707 - $70,896) Based on the 2026-2027 ACCS Salary Schedules. Salary will be based on VERIFIED education and years of VERIFIED FULL-TIME directly related experience that is stated on the initial job application and resume. Salary Calculation: For all positions on all Salary Schedules, the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all full-time work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other full-time work experience outside of public education in Alabama that, in the sole judgment of the College, directly relates to the requirements of the position. The applicant selected for the position must provide written verification(s) of this full-time work experience within the time provided herein if such experience is to be considered in determining their initial step place on the Salary Schedule.
