About The Role

We're seeking freelance Ad Operations Specialists to own tracking infrastructure and technical execution for clients across paid search, social, display, and OTT. This is a hands-on technical seat: pixel configuration, server-side tracking, event passback, and the martech governance that keeps data clean as it flows between ad platforms, ESPs/CDPs, and internal systems. You're comfortable acting as the translator between marketing, analytics, and engineering — someone who can turn a marketing strategy into technical requirements and scalable infrastructure.

Our client base spans early-stage startups to Fortune 500 teams, so we're looking for marketers with deep expertise on either end of that spectrum — some who thrive in the speed and ambiguity of a scrappy startup, others who are seasoned in the process and governance of a larger organization. Contract projects typically range from 15 to 40 hours per week, depending on client needs and project scope.

Responsibilities

• Own ad ops execution across paid search, social, display, and OTT, including pixel configuration, server-side tracking, event passback, and targeting parameter setup.
• Establish and maintain UTM tracking guidelines and campaign tagging standards.
• Audit and troubleshoot tracking discrepancies, under-reporting, or data leakage across ad platforms.
• Champion data governance, documentation, and deliverability best practices across the martech stack, including compliance with CAN-SPAM and safeguarding domain/IP health.
• Manage data inflows and outflows within an enterprise ESP or CDP, maintaining data hygiene.
• Manage Google Tag Manager containers, including tag, trigger, and variable maintenance.
• Query and model data in SQL to support targeting, audiences, and reporting.
• Act as the technical translator between marketing, analytics, and engineering stakeholders.

Requirements

• 4+ years of hands-on ad operations experience across paid search, social, display, and OTT, including event passback and pixel implementation.
• 4+ years governing enterprise ESPs or CDPs, including data inflows/outflows and data hygiene.
• Fluent in SQL, comfortable querying, transforming, and modeling complex datasets.
• Working knowledge of deliverability best practices and compliance frameworks (CAN-SPAM, domain/IP reputation).
• Strong, hands-on familiarity with Google Tag Manager, conversion tracking, and URL parameterization.
• Deep experience at either a startup or a larger, more established organization — comfortable moving fast with limited process, or operating within a mature governance structure.

Tools & Platforms

• Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics (GA4), and Google Ads.
• Meta, TikTok, Reddit, display, and OTT/CTV ad platforms.
• Enterprise ESPs / CDPs (Braze, Segment, Iterable, etc.).
• SQL and a data warehouse (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, or similar).
• Attribution or tracking tools such as AppsFlyer, Adjust, or comparable.
