Help shape the next chapter of The Air Ambulance Service

The Air Ambulance Service is looking for an exceptional Associate Director of Brand, Marketing and Communications to join our Executive Leadership Team and lead the next chapter of our brand, marketing and communications strategy.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this is a senior leadership opportunity with significant organisational influence. You will help shape organisational strategy, advise at Executive and Board level, and lead a talented team of marketing and communications professionals.

You will take strategic ownership of how we build and protect our brands, tell our story, engage our audiences and strengthen our reputation – ensuring our marketing and communications activity helps us reach more people, inspire support, generate income and deliver greater impact.

The opportunity

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide strategic leadership across brand, marketing, communications, PR and reputation, ensuring these areas support the charity’s long-term ambitions.

You will develop and oversee integrated strategies that recognise the distinct audiences and messaging requirements across our services and brands, strengthening engagement with supporters, volunteers, communities, partners and colleagues.

A key priority will be ensuring our brands and services have clear, compelling propositions that connect with their audiences. Acting as a strategic Brand Guardian, you will protect brand equity and stakeholder confidence while identifying opportunities to increase awareness, engagement and organisational impact.

You will also play an important role in major organisational priorities, including supporting our capital ambitions, strengthening our national profile as a leader in pre-hospital care, driving supporter and volunteer acquisition and helping maximise income opportunities across fundraising, retail and digital channels.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Providing strategic leadership for Brand, Marketing and Communications, shaping organisational strategy and advising senior stakeholders.
  • Lead brand, marketing, digital, PR and communications activity to grow engagement, income and reputation, using data, insight and technology to drive performance.
  • Develop high-impact campaigns, strengthen supporter experiences, and oversee internal and external communications.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team while managing budgets, governance, compliance and risk.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Senior leadership experience in marketing, communications, PR, or brand management.
  • Proven success in developing strategy and delivering measurable results.
  • Experience managing complex brands and engaging diverse audiences.
  • Strong track record in supporter/customer acquisition, retention, and engagement across channels.
  • Skilled in using CRM systems and digital platforms to enhance audience engagement.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, including with high-profile partners.
  • Experience presenting to and influencing Executive teams and Boards.
  • Strong commercial and financial management skills, including budget responsibility.
  • Experience leading organisational change and protecting organisational reputation.
  • Inspirational leader with a collaborative approach to achieving organisational goals.
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience in Marketing, Communications, or PR.
  • Strong alignment with The Air Ambulance Service's values and mission.
  • Experience within the charity, healthcare or not-for-profit sector, professional membership of CIM or CIPR, and experience of crisis communications and media management would be advantageous.

Why join The Air Ambulance Service?

Through our lifesaving services, we support communities and patients when they need us most. As an ambitious charity, we are continuing to grow our reach, strengthen relationships and amplify our impact.

This is an opportunity to influence that journey at the highest level. You will join our Executive Leadership Team, lead a skilled and creative department and help shape how we engage with colleagues, supporters, volunteers, partners and communities nationwide.

If you are an ambitious, collaborative and creative leader who wants to use your expertise to make a meaningful difference, we would love to hear from you.

The Air Ambulance Service

About The Air Ambulance Service

The Air Ambulance Service operates the national Children’s Air Ambulance and the local air ambulance services for Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Our vision is clear. We want children to grow into adults, we want adults to live longer and we want bereavement through trauma to become rare.

Each of our services works tirelessly to save lives and alleviate sickness, wherever and whenever possible.

The Children’s Air Ambulance

The Children’s Air Ambulance is our national service, flying critically ill children from one hospital to another for specialist care. We are the first and only dedicated paediatric helicopter emergency transfer service in the country. The bespoke, specialist equipment on board our helicopter provides a flying intensive care unit for children. When a child is too sick to fly, we fly a specialist team to them. With flight times commonly over four times quicker than transfer by road, in many cases, time saved is a life saved.

Local air ambulance services

We fly two local air ambulances services, serving a total of five counties.

- Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA)

- Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA)

These two helicopters provide a rapid response to trauma and medical emergencies over an area of 3850 square miles. They cover many of the UK’s major road networks including the M1, M6, M69 and M42. With an average response of just 13 minutes, between them they attend on average six missions a day.

In everything we do we are compassionate, courageous and creative.
