The Actuarial Specialist is responsible for leading the development, enhancement, and implementation of reserving, capital modelling, financial reporting, and predictive analytics solutions as an independent contributor. The role applies advanced actuarial knowledge to support business decision-making, regulatory requirements, and financial reporting while providing technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members. ​​​The Actuarial Specialist reports to the Actuarial Director and works in conjunction with less experienced analysts.

What will you do:

Reserving and Financial Analysis

  • ​​Lead complex reserving analyses and investigate trends impacting actuarial results.
  • ​Develop and enhance actuarial methodologies used in reserve valuation and financial reporting.
  • ​Review results for reasonableness and identify emerging risks or opportunities.
  • ​Communicate findings and recommendations to actuarial management and business partners.

Capital Modelling and Risk Assessment

  • ​​Support development and maintenance of capital and risk models, including FCT and stress testing.
  • ​Perform scenario analysis and quantify impacts of changing business conditions.
  • ​Assist with economic capital, reinsurance, catastrophe, and risk-adjusted performance analyses.
  • ​Recommend enhancements to modelling techniques and assumptions.

Model Development and Technical Innovation

  • ​​​Design, build, and maintain actuarial models and automated analytical processes.
  • ​Develop solutions using actuarial software, SQL, Python, R, or other analytical tools.
  • ​Improve efficiency through automation, documentation, and process optimization.
  • ​Evaluate emerging analytical techniques and industry best practices.

Financial Reporting and Regulatory Support

  • ​​​Support quarterly and annual actuarial reporting requirements.
  • ​Contribute to IFRS 17, capital adequacy, regulatory, and board reporting processes.
  • ​Prepare exhibits, documentation, and analysis supporting external reviews and audits.
  • ​Ensure actuarial work complies with professional standards and internal governance requirements

Technical Leadership and Professional Development

  • ​​Act as a subject matter expert for assigned actuarial projects and initiatives.
  • ​Provide technical guidance and peer review support to analysts and senior analysts.
  • ​Assist with training, knowledge sharing, and development of actuarial team capabilities.
  • ​Continue professional development through CAS/FCIA progression and industry research.​

What skills will you need:

  • Undergraduate degree in ​​​Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Statistics​​and FCAS / FCIA designation with exceptions for significant experience with (near) ACAS designation​
  • 5-8 years of applicable experience in a P&C Insurance Company
  • ​Strong actuarial modelling and analytical capabilities.
  • ​Advanced proficiency with Excel and actuarial software.
  • ​Experience using SQL, Python, R, or equivalent analytical tools.
  • ​Knowledge of IFRS 17, FCT, reinsurance, planning, and capital modelling.
  • ​Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

The expected base salary range for this position is $97,500 - $147,500. Depending on your relevant experience, skills, qualifications, market conditions and business needs, base compensation may vary. You have the potential to earn more through Gore Mutual’s discretionary bonus program which gives you an opportunity to increase your total compensation, provided the business meets its performance targets and you meet your individual goals.

Please note: This range reflects the expected base salary for this role but may not represent the full compensation range for all experience and skill levels. During the recruitment process, we will discuss and consider how your unique qualifications align with the broader range for this position.
