Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a strong C#/.NET Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain the business calculation layer powering our insurance illustration and sales platforms. This role focuses on translating complex product rules, financial calculations, and business formulas into scalable, high-performance software solutions.

The engineer will work closely with product, actuarial, and engineering teams in both India and the US to implement calculation logic for life and annuity insurance products. Much of the work involves analyzing business requirements and calculation spreadsheets, then converting those rules into robust, maintainable .NET applications and APIs.

Success in this role requires strong C# development skills, a solid understanding of .NET architecture and design principles, attention to detail, and the ability to work through complex calculation and business logic problems. Prior insurance experience is beneficial but not required for candidates with strong software engineering and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex business calculation engines and services using C# and .NET.
  • Translate business requirements, product specifications, formulas, and spreadsheet-based calculation models into scalable, maintainable software solutions.
  • Build and enhance APIs and backend services that power insurance illustration, quoting, and product platforms.
  • Ensure calculations are accurate, performant, auditable, and aligned with product requirements.
  • Apply strong object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and .NET architectural best practices.
  • Develop comprehensive unit tests and support automated testing to ensure calculation integrity and system reliability.
  • Analyze, debug, and resolve complex business logic and application issues.
  • Collaborate with product, actuarial, QA, and engineering teams to understand requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation for calculation logic, system design, and implementation details.
  • Provide accurate effort estimates and take ownership of deliverables through design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Participate in Agile development processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C# and the .NET ecosystem.
  • Experience with ASP.NET / .NET Core, Web APIs, and service‑oriented architecture.
  • Solid understanding of object‑oriented design, SOLID principles, and design patterns.
  • Experience with SQL databases (SQL Server preferred), including:
    • Query optimization
    • Data modeling
    • Performance considerations
  • Ability to interpret and validate financial and actuarial calculations.
  • Hands‑on experience with Excel for understanding and validating calculation logic.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development.
  • Experience using Git / Azure DevOps, JIRA, or similar tools.
  • Strong debugging, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to bridge actuarial logic and software engineering
  • High ownership and accountability for assigned work
  • Comfort working in distributed India–US teams
  • Strong attention to detail, especially around financial accuracy
  • Willingness to continuously learn insurance domain knowledge and modern engineering practices

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience building or supporting insurance illustration or actuarial systems
  • Exposure to annuity, life insurance, or retirement products
  • Experience with Entity Framework or similar ORMs
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with performance optimization techniques (caching, async processing)
  • Basic understanding of application security and data protection best practices

We believe the best ideas and innovation happen when we are together. Employees in this role will work in the office four days, with the flexibility to work remotely one day (Friday).
