Salary Range: $125.00 - $125.00 Hourly

The Police Athletic League (or PAL) is New York City’s largest independent youth development organization. We operate diverse programs from Head Start, Day Car and Universal Pre-K programs; to elementary and middle school after-school programs, summer day camps and summer Playstreets. We run evening teen centers and college readiness programs, as well as youth employment and juvenile justice programs. In its over a century of service, PAL is continuing its evolution and remains a vibrant and vital New York City institution.

Position Summary:
The ACT/SAT Prep Expert provides high-level, results-driven instruction to middle and high school students, utilizing proven strategies to improve standardized test performance while fostering confidence, critical thinking, and academic skills. This role is designed for an experienced educator who can deliver structured, engaging, and personalized instruction tailored to individual student needs.
Pay & Commitment:
- $125 per hour
- 3-hour shifts, 2 days per week
- 8 Weeks August/September
- Location: Polo Grounds at PS 194 - 244 West 144th Street New York,  NY 10030
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver structured instruction in ACT/SAT content areas, including English, Math, Reading, and Science (as applicable)
- Develop and implement lesson plans and practice exercises targeting test-taking strategies, time management, and skill reinforcement
- Assess student strengths and areas for improvement, providing personalized feedback and study plans
- Track student progress and adjust instructional approaches accordingly
- Create a positive and motivating learning environment that encourages student engagement and confidence
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and program staff as appropriate
- Monitor attendance, participation, and performance for program documentation
- Collaborate with program staff to align instruction with broader academic support initiatives

Qualifications

Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience teaching or tutoring ACT, SAT, or comparable standardized tests
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Mathematics, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Proven track record of improving student test scores
- Strong knowledge of standardized test formats, strategies, and scoring
- Experience working with high school–aged students
- Excellent communication, instructional, and motivational skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
