Activity Sponsor - Marching/Concert PercussionAn Activity Sponsor is responsible for supervising and supporting a specific extracurricular club, organization, or activity. This role involves mentoring students, overseeing club activities, and ensuring that all events and meetings are conducted in a safe and organized manner. The Activity Sponsor works closely with students, faculty, and administration to promote student engagement and development.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
- Education or advanced training with relevance to to the club/activity strongly desired
ESSENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Depending on the activity and school setting, there may be:
- Mild to moderate or louder noise
- Potential exposure to weather conditions, variable temperatures
- Typical school classroom / office / gymnasium or outdoor lighting and facilities
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on the activity and school setting, the following may be required:
- Lifting of ten (10) or more pounds
- Frequent sitting, standing, bending, squatting, reaching
- Repetitive movement
Attend and teach weekly Spring Marching Percussion sections from March - May
Rehearse percussion students in 3-week Marching Camp (July)
Rehearse percussion students in:
---August - December Monday, Tuesday, Thursday after school 3pm - 6pm (approx. 48)
---Saturdays 8am - 4:30pm (7)
Work closely and collaboratively with the Band Parent Organization to transport all percussion equipment to and from each event.
Attend weekly rehearsals during the day to rehearse the Symphonic and Wind Ensemble Percussion classes during the 1st and 2nd semesters.
Prepare percussion chamber ensembles for the Spring Concerts, Concert Festivals and Solo & Ensemble events.
Assist in the recruitment and team-building of current and future percussion sections.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Tasked with the regular cleaning, maintenance and minor repairs of all Percussion Equipment
Specialized music instruction of Marching Percussion and Concert Band(s)
Help in the design and planning of the Marching Field Show
Run the Electronic Sound System and PA and program sampled sounds into computer to complement and enhance the Front Ensemble.
Teach and coordinate both the Front Ensemble and Drum Line.
Write music and arrangements when necessary for the Front Ensemble and Drum Line
Work closely with Sound-Scaping technician to optimize the full sound of the percussion.
High School or Equivalent
Verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions. Strong organizational and time management skills. Collaborative team player Maintains a generally positive attitude. Observes all District policies and procedures
