The Activities Driver implements the transportation service primarily related to Recreation/Wellness events in the city of Winston-Salem and surrounding communities. Will act as an escort for residents when/if needed. Driver must be experienced in driving a 15 passenger bus.

Job Relationships

1. Responsible to: Wellness Arts Coordinator.
2. Assignments received from: Wellness Arts Coordinator
3. Nature of supervision received: Direct supervision from Wellness Arts Coordinator.
4. Position(s) supervised: None
5. Interaction with: Staff, residents, residents families, visitors, public, staff, volunteers.
6. Types of Communication: verbal, written, emails, direct/indirect from residents, residents families.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Drive residents to/from community events as assigned.
2. Assists residents into/out of vehicle and into/out of the facility serving the resident.
3. Records resident attendance and uses established guidelines to assure all residents taken off campus are returned.
4. Assures that vehicles have an adequate supply of gasoline at all times. Reports vehicle problem/malfunctions to Wellness Arts Coordinator or maintenance.
5. Represents the Wellness Arts Department in all interactions with residents. Offers encouragement and support while providing transportation services and reports resident needs or concerns to the Wellness Arts Coordinator and the nursing staff.
6. Performs any other duties/tasks that are assigned on an as needed basis by the Wellness Arts Coordinator.

Typical Physical Demands

1. Ability to bend, squat, raise arms above the shoulders and lift 40 lbs.
2. Ability to push/pull 180 to 200 lbs.
3. Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of a 24 hour daily operation

1. Ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly with older adults.
2. Demonstrated record of safe driving habits.
3. Ability to perform mental functions, reading and withstand moderate amounts of stress.
4. Work habits must include regular attendance, punctuality, teamwork, initiative, willingness to learn, dependability and promptness.

Minimum Education

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience

1. Minimum of 6 months work experience preferred.

License and/or Certifications

1. Valid North Carolina Drivers license.
2. Ability to successfully complete the program of orientation to operate the two 14 passenger busses, van, the wheelchair bus and the wheelchair vans.
3. Commercial Driver's License NOT required.
