Job Description

This is a multipurpose position in which duties range from carrying out basic patient care tasks to performing a variety of operational activities for the department. As directed, the Activities Assistant provides engaging and effective activities and instructs patients in activities and techniques designed to meet their specific physical or psychological needs.

Essential Functions

  • Provides resident activities programs as well as direct resident care within the scope of your certification, training, and meeting regulations.
  • Promotes activities and encourages participation.
  • Suggests activity changes or modifications to meet the specific needs and abilities of individual participants.
  • Uses proper infection control policies- Accompany patients to activities and functions
  • Accurately and efficiently documents work- Continually expanding knowledge
  • Helps improve facility and safety programs-
  • Communicates compassionately and effectively with patients, families and staff.
  • Participates in quality assurance program for the activity department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current, valid MT Driver’s license and proof of insurability
  • Current BLS certification by the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of Montana or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to pass safe driving session conducted by facility maintenance manager.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a long term care facility.
  • Prior experience working with patients with limited abilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$17.86 - $23.21
