Reporting to the Manager, Active Transportation, the Program Assistant will support the planning and delivery of the Active Transportation Outreach and School Streets Projects. The successful candidate will support these programs by providing background research, literature reviews and best practice scans, preparing reports and presentations, and assisting with program delivery. This will result in the creation of long-term programs that are well researched and incorporate best practices, so that the objectives of the Cycling and Pedestrian Master Plans are successfully achieved.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the research, design, analysis and development of programs to support Master Plan objectives
  • Draft and present reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders on Master Plan / program matters
  • Prepare detailed and summary descriptive materials including but not limited to: reports, program manuals, web content, brochures and standard operating procedures
  • Provide strategic input with regards to any potential barriers which may arise and impact the success of policy initiatives
  • Use various methodologies to analyze problems and provide solutions to a variety of problems that are encountered under normal business activity
  • Pinpoint strengths and weaknesses of various alternatives and select or recommend appropriate decisions/solutions
  • Participate in policy and program development working group meetings

Skills and Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in urban planning, policy planning or other related discipline
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in a policy-based role required
  • Superior communications skills (both written and verbal)
  • Superior analytical and organizational skills with the ability to distill complex information in a succinct and clear manner
  • Possess an openness and flexibility to trying new ideas, methodologies, approaches and activities
  • Strong literature and web-based research skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to maintain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholder groups
  • Proficient with full Microsoft 365 suite, including: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint
  • Previous experience working in a municipality is an asset
  • Understanding of municipal transportation issues is an asset

Hourly Rate: $ 34.19 - $ 45.59
Hours of Work: 35
Work Location: Civic Centre - 300 City Centre Dr, Mississauga
Work Model: This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be onsite in the office 3 days per week and allowing remote work for the remaining days. Specific in-office days may be set by the team or department to support collaboration and business needs.
