About the Role

As a Principal Hardware Design Engineer, you will design, develop, and deliver high‑quality industrial control panels and systems across a variety of projects—primarily in the food and beverage sector. Your work will directly support major UK and international clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design industrial control panels, MCCs, and automation hardware to meet specifications and safety standards (IEC, UL, BS EN)

  • Produce schematics, block diagrams, general arrangements, and wiring schedules

  • Create detailed documentation including equipment lists, cable schedules, and BOMs

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and technicians throughout delivery

  • Support procurement and resolve technical queries during assembly, installation, and commissioning

  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and improvement initiatives

  • Build strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience designing industrial control panels, MCCs, or automation hardware

  • Strong CAD and electrical schematic design skills

  • Knowledge of industry standards (BS EN 61439, IEC 60204, UL508A)

  • Understanding of PLCs, relays, safety devices, VSDs, HMIs, etc.

  • Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) or equivalent experience

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines

  • Food & beverage sector experience is a plus
