We're searching for a Director, Accounting & Controllership Services (ACS) – Nonprofit Industry Focus to join our team in Florida
In this role, you will lead a portfolio of nonprofit clients, providing outsourced accounting, controllership, and CFO-level advisory services that help mission-driven organizations achieve their goals. You will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and boards, oversee the delivery of high-quality financial services, and provide strategic guidance on accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and organizational growth.

As a leader within the firm, you will play a key role in developing talent, strengthening client relationships, and driving the continued success of our Accounting & Controllership Services practice.
What You'll Do:
Client Leadership & Service
• Lead a portfolio of nonprofit clients, delivering outsourced accounting, controllership, and CFO advisory services tailored to each organization's mission and operational needs.
• Serve as the primary strategic advisor to executive directors, CEOs, boards of directors, and finance committees.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships while ensuring exceptional service throughout the engagement lifecycle.
• Lead client onboarding efforts and establish trusted partnerships that support long-term success.
• Identify opportunities to expand services and strengthen client relationships through value-added solutions.
Technical Excellence
• Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant reporting requirements, and regulatory obligations.
• Review and approve accounting transactions, reconciliations, financial statements, and client deliverables.
• Analyze financial performance and provide actionable insights to support mission achievement and organizational growth.
• Guide clients through budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and strategic planning initiatives.
• Stay current on nonprofit accounting trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
Leadership & Team Development
• Mentor, coach, and develop ACS managers, supervisors, and staff.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and employee development initiatives.
• Promote technical excellence and professional growth across the ACS team.
• Assist in developing and delivering internal training and continuing professional education programs.
Practice Growth & Strategic Initiatives
• Collaborate with firm leadership to drive growth, innovation, profitability, and operational excellence within the ACS practice.
• Support business development efforts through networking, relationship building, proposals, and industry involvement.
• Participate in speaking engagements, nonprofit events, and community activities to strengthen James Moore's nonprofit presence.
• Collaborate across firm service lines to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients.
• Help establish and execute growth strategies for the nonprofit-focused ACS practice.
What We're Looking For -
Required Qualifications:
• 10+ years of accounting, controllership, outsourced accounting, or related financial leadership experience.
• Experience serving nonprofit organizations, including fund accounting, grant compliance, and nonprofit financial reporting.
• Experience managing client relationships within a professional services environment.
• Strong knowledge of accounting systems, financial technologies, and reporting processes.
• Proven leadership and team development experience.
• Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and modern accounting platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA designation.
• Public accounting experience.
• 5+ years of CFO or Finance Director experience.
• Experience with nonprofit-focused accounting software and reporting systems.
• Demonstrated success in business development and practice growth.
