About the team/About the role:

The Mass Fundraising Unit develops and manages scalable fundraising programs that acquire, engage and retain supporters and generate sustainable income to fund Cancer Council NSW’s mission.  

The Acquisition Lead provides strategic and operational leadership for the acquisition and growth of our regular giving program across face-to-face, telemarketing, digital, direct mail and other direct response channels.  The role leads the development, delivery and optimisation of the acquisition portfolio, ensuring investment decisions are informed by supporter quality, cost per acquisition, retention, lifetime value, risk and long-term net revenue.  

A key focus is leading the continued expansion of Cancer Council NSW’s regular giving program into other states and territories, in partnership with participating Cancer Councils. This includes business planning, governance, agency procurement, market launch, performance management and ongoing optimisation.  

Please note this is a Full-Time, 12 month maternity leave contract.

Key responsibilities of the role: 

• Lead and continuously improve supporter acquisition and regular giving growth strategy, annual plans, budgets, forecasts and investment decisions across the acquisition portfolio.
• Deliver and optimise regular giving programs across face-to-face, telemarketing, digital and conversion channels.
• Drive interstate expansion of regular giving, including business cases, procurement, stakeholder management, operational readiness and governance.
• Manage agency and supplier relationships, ensuring strong performance, quality assurance, compliance and continuous improvement.
• Monitor and optimise acquisition performance, budgets and channel investment to maximise supporter quality, retention, lifetime value and financial return.
• Partner with internal teams to deliver supporter-centric, data-driven, compliant and operationally sustainable acquisition programs.
• Provide reporting, strategic recommendations and team leadership, while fostering capability, accountability, innovation and safe work practices.

About you: 

Essential: 

• Extensive experience leading direct response fundraising, regular giving, donor acquisition or comparable customer acquisition portfolios.
• Proven success delivering large-scale multi-channel acquisition programs, achieving financial, growth and supporter-quality targets.
• Strong commercial and analytical skills, including budgeting, forecasting, business case development, investment modelling and performance analysis.
• Demonstrated experience managing agencies, suppliers, contracts and complex projects within regulated or reputationally sensitive environments.
• Highly developed stakeholder management and communication skills, with expertise in CRM, supporter lifecycle management, program optimisation, innovation and relevant reporting systems.

Desirable: 

• Relevant tertiary qualification in marketing, fundraising, business, commerce or a related discipline, with experience delivering programs across multiple Australian states and territories, ideally within a federated organisation.
• Knowledge of Australian fundraising, privacy, consumer and face-to-face fundraising regulations, with an interest in leveraging AI-enabled tools, including Microsoft Copilot, to improve efficiency, insights, reporting and supporter outcomes.
