The Company

Ingles Markets began in 1963 as a single supermarket and has since grown into a regional grocery store chain with just under 200 retail locations operating in 6 southeastern states, a 1.6-million-square foot distribution center, two truck fleets, and a milk processing plant. Ingles Markets’ headquarters and distribution center are located just 15 minutes outside of Asheville, NC in the town of Black Mountain.

The Position

The DSD Accounts Payable Clerk is responsible for processing and verifying invoices across departments including Meat, Frozen, Deli, Bakery, and Starbucks. This role ensures accurate pricing, timely vendor payments, and proper documentation of financial transactions. The position also supports inventory coordination, maintains compliance with approval procedures, and provides administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Enter data into appropriate system in a timely fashion.
• Review vendor statements, checking for accuracy, editing when applicable, and receiving necessary approval prior to payment.
• Provide inventory clerks with purchase dates.
• Match backup to invoice payments for vendor clerks
• Distribute vendor checks to proper DSD department.
• Process and enter store transfer data into appropriate system; prepare data for quarterly and fiscal year-end accrual.
• Respond to all vendor correspondence in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.
• Compile completed tasks and store in approved storage.
• Conduct administrative responsibilities including opening and sorting mail, filing, and filling in when needed.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 0-2 years of experience in accounting or comparable field is preferred.
• High degree of organization with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver assignments by stated deadlines.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
• Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs especially during times of high volume and/or stress.
• Must have knowledge of Excel.
• Must be able to exchange accurate information with coworkers, associates, and customers.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position.
• Must be able to operate a computer and office equipment.
