The Athens Finance function is responsible for all the financial reporting, controls and analysis regarding the local office, reporting to the Head office in London and ultimately supporting a variety of both internal and external stakeholders. As Accounts Assistant, you will work in the Finance function and contribute as part of a crucial team to the core accounting and financial operations for a key portion of the Clarksons business.

What you’ll be doing

  • Coordinate all on-site accounting functions and act as liaison for all corporate accounting requests.
  • Prepare, understand, and post journals (e.g. prepayments, accruals, intercompany recharges, and month end journal).
  • Be responsible for the preparation of VAT returns, MyData and assist in the preparation of local Greek accounting/tax returns.
  • Assist with the preparation of year-end financial statements.
  • Assist the preparation and submission of regulatory reports.
  • Assist with internal controls and systems.
  • Ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support the local finance team.
  • Assist in liaising with external auditors and assisting with the preparation of schedules as required.
  • Identify and support continuous changes and improvements within the business.
  • Additional / ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

Other requirements

  • Knowledge of Greek Tax accounting, Mydata, VAT.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in Accounting /Finance.
  • Knowledge of Workday Financials or equivalent financial reporting software would be an advantage.
  • Experience in Shipping, shipbroking will be considered an advantage.
  • A high degree of numeracy is essential.
  • Organised and able to prioritise own workload in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Self-confident with good English communication skills (both written and verbal) and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of working in a team environment within a large organisation.
  • Desire to learn, develop and contribute to the wider team goals.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Good IT skills in MS office packages (at least intermediate level in use of excel) is essential.
  • Fluency in English and Greek.
