Are you looking for an accounting position where you can make a difference?

The Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown has an opening for an Accounting Technician 2 This position is located in Resident Finance Office and performs advanced professional accounting work.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth interviews with residents and/or legal representatives to determine appropriate billing classification
  • Interpret policies and regulations of the Iowa Veterans Home, Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Veterans Affairs and explain financial rights and responsibilities of the resident and/or legal representatives
  • Review new admission files and follow up to ensure verifications are returned, incomes are changed, and assets are liquated, as applicable.
  • Gather, analyze, and document a large amount of information related to financial status
  • Support the Resident Finance Supervisor by reviewing all residents on a monthly debtors’ report for viable collections
  • Review, identify and apply for VA pension with Aid & Attendance, Social Security disability or retirement, as well as any and all other pensions they may qualify for and ensure they are receiving the greatest benefit.
  • Review incoming bills, determine if they need to be paid from resident account, and write checks from Membership account to pay.
  • Understand and maintain an assortment of reports, both current and past, to interpret any discrepancies in the resident’s incomes/assets and determine the monthly charges.
  • Determine eligibility and apply for Medicaid benefits for residents and maintain coverage by timely completing requested documents.
  • Ensure financial paperwork is signed by legal financial representative for each resident and update if a change in decision making occurs.
  • Complete annual representative payee reviews, Medicaid reviews, and any other final reporting as deemed necessary.


Preferred Experience:
• Advanced experience in Excel preferred
• Customer service experience in the financial field

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency and four years of clerical accounting experience which involved the compilation, tabulation, examination, verification or recording of financial, statistical or related fiscal programs using elementary bookkeeping principles and practices;

OR


the successful completion of a post-high school vocational/technical, business college, or area community college curriculum in accounting which included concentrated course work equivalent to twenty semester hours (or more) in accounting;

OR


an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of employment in clerical office work for each year of the required education;

OR


substituting the successful completion of thirty semester hours or the academic equivalent in a post high school Business, Accounting or closely related curriculum for each year of the required experience;

OR


any equivalent combination of qualifying education or experience;

OR


one year of experience as an Accounting Technician 1 in the State of Iowa classified service will be considered as qualifying;

OR


one year of work experience as an Accounting Clerk 3 in the State of Iowa classified service will be considered as qualifying.
