CARIAN is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our corporate Accounting team in Somerset, NJ. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role will support day-to-day accounting activities and help ensure our financial records are accurate, timely, and well organized.
The Accounting Specialist will support general ledger activity, account reconciliations, customer invoicing, accounts payable and receivable, payroll-related processes, expense reporting, and month-end close. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, comfortable working with accounting systems and Excel, and able to manage recurring deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
This is a full-time, six-month W-2 contract position based in our Somerset, NJ office. The position may have the opportunity to convert to regular full-time employment based on individual performance and business needs.
Responsibilities
Perform day-to-day accounting activities, including transaction entry and maintenance of accurate accounting records
Prepare and issue customer invoices, verify billing accuracy and supporting documentation, and coordinate corrections or follow-up as needed
Prepare bank, credit card, and other account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including invoice and payment processing
Support general ledger activity and assist with month-end close, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation
Support payroll and timekeeping processes, including review and entry of timesheets, expense reports, and related information
Assist with the preparation of routine financial reports and accounting schedules under the direction of the Accounting Manager
Maintain organized supporting documentation for financial transactions, audits, and compliance requests
Help ensure accounting activities are completed in accordance with company policies, procedures, and internal controls
Coordinate with employees and internal departments to resolve routine accounting, expense, timekeeping, and documentation questions
Provide additional accounting support as business needs require
Qualifications
2+ years of relevant accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable, or similar accounting support experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant accounting experience will be considered.
Working knowledge of basic accounting principles, general ledger activity, and account reconciliations
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Experience with NetSuite, QuickBooks, or another accounting or ERP system; NetSuite experience is preferred
Ability to manage recurring deadlines and multiple priorities in an organized manner
Ability to handle payroll, financial, and employee information with appropriate confidentiality
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment

Compensation
The hourly pay range for this role is $25.00–$30.00 per hour. This range represents a good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, skills, and other factors permitted by law.
This position is a six-month W-2 contract role and is not eligible for CARIAN's standard employee benefits package. Any benefits or leave required under applicable law will be provided. The position may have the opportunity to convert to regular full-time employment, which would include eligibility for CARIAN's applicable employee benefits and compensation programs.
