The Grant & Contract Accounting Specialist position within the Grants & Contracts Administration unit works on the GCA-Post Award Accounting team. Grants & Contracts Administration is a research administration unit within the Division of Research & Innovation. This position is responsible for claiming and reconciling sponsored funding agency deposits in the banking and accounting system at UNT, and ensuring all payments are applied correctly. The Accounting Specialist works closely with the Controller's Office and the GCA Post-Award Accounting team to ensure that all payments are appropriately applied to outstanding invoices, and eliminating outage items on the accounting sub-ledger and general ledger. This position also assists the Grants & Contracts Accounting Analyst staff to help locate billing supporting document records, and as serves as a backup for the Accounting Analyst staff as needed to meet grant accounting task deadlines during peak times.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree and one year of experience in finance, business accounting or related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Working knowledge of accepted accounting practices, legal statutes, and policy and procedure affecting financial record keeping.
* Working knowledge of cost and audit accounting.
* Ability to work accurately with numerical detail consistently and to perform accounting operations legibly.
* Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present accounting data in clear concise form.
* Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.
* Ability to utilize job-related software to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in higher education and/or research administration.
