Job Description
Accounting Officer / Senior Accounting Officer in the Institute for Climate and Carbon Neutrality (ICCN) (Ref: 536356) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.)
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day financial operations and accounting functions of the Institute for Climate and Carbon Neutrality.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage annual budgets, financial forecasts, and expenditure reports for various research projects, events (e.g. Climate Week), and other operational initiatives.
- Ensure all financial transactions, procurement, and reimbursement processes comply with the University of Hong Kong’s financial regulations and guidelines.
- Assist in preparing financial reports for internal stakeholders and external funding agencies or partners.
- Coordinate with the Finance and Enterprises Office and other university departments on accounting and personnel-related financial matters.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Institute or their delegates.
Requirements:
- A recognized Bachelor's degree or above in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- At least 1-3 years of post-qualification work experience in financial management, accounting, or auditing. Experience in the higher education sector, research institutes, or non-profit organizations would be an advantage.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua).
- High proficiency in accounting software and MS Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines, and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- For appointment as Senior Accounting Officer: Candidates should possess a recognized professional accounting qualification (e.g., HKICPA, ACCA, or equivalent) together with substantial post-qualification experience with a proven track record in financial management. Candidates with less experience or without a professional qualification may be considered for appointment as Accounting Officer.
