An Accounting Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of the daily operations of the accounting department. This position is responsible for the accurate preparation and documentation of financial statements and reports for multiple entities. It is essential to possess a strong knowledge and understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Critical for success are a high attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to provide and maintain organization and direction.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage the team. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing feedback; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Collaborate with management team to coordinate and optimize efforts to achieve Finance organization objectives.
  • Maintain general ledger system. Review ledger entries and reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
  • Oversee and participate in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements and reports for the Michels family of companies.
  • Manage monthly closing and consolidation processes, account reconciliations, and related analysis and reporting for financials across all companies. Recommend solutions to complex accounting issues.
  • Lead all financial systems software initiatives. Collaborate and communicate closely with Information Technology (IT) Department and end users to stay current with functionality, aligning daily workflows and strategic objectives. Lead improvement activities to support daily operations.
  • Research, develop, and implement internal controls.
  • Actively participate within special projects and analyses: identify and implement best practices.
  • Oversee accounting transactions for foreign entities, ensuring compliance with intercompany transfer pricing agreements, and accurate and timely reporting in both local and US GAAP.
  • Provide resources and information to meet operational needs. Maintain open communication with company and departmental leads to ensure coordination of accounting needs
  • Work with Information Technology department to identify and implement tools to drive better communication, process-management and reporting tools.
  • Assist with the management of the annual external audit: coordinate schedules and deliverables, both internally and externally. Assure compliance with applicable US GAAP laws, and other regulations and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting or Finance and 7-10 years of accounting experience, or an equivalent combination
  • Financial systems experience
  • Management experience
  • Expert in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Related construction industry experience
  • International accounting experience
