Job Description

About the Position

Ready to leave your fingerprints on how a fast-growing company runs its books? We're looking for an experienced Accounting Manager who does far more than keep the numbers balanced. Reporting to the Director of Accounting at our corporate headquarters in St. Petersburg, FL, you'll lead a team of accountants, own the accuracy and timeliness of our financial information, and take our general ledger and close processes to the next level.

It's an exciting time to join. We're in the middle of a major finance transformation – migrating our ERP from Oracle EBS to Oracle Fusion and implementing Avalara for sales tax – so you'll play a hands-on role in shaping the systems and processes the team will run on for years to come. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves living in the details, is technically sharp, and gets energized – not overwhelmed – by change. You'll step into workflows, quickly learn how the work gets done today, and then roll up your sleeves to streamline, strengthen, and document them so the team has a reliable playbook to scale on. If you lead from the front, hold a high bar for accuracy, and like building things better than you found them, we'd love to meet you.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the team – directly supervise, coach, and grow a team of accountants; set clear goals, manage performance, and provide ongoing training and mentorship. Own your team's results and workload rather than simply routing information up and down.
  • Own the general ledger – oversee and manage the general ledger accounting function, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and on time.
  • Drive the close – manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close; review and analyze financial information for accuracy and completeness before it reaches leadership and stakeholders.
  • Improve and document processes – dig into current accounting workflows, learn them quickly, and identify opportunities to streamline, tighten controls, and add efficiency – then build clear, repeatable documentation and standard operating procedures that hold up as the company grows.
  • Serve as a technical resource – act as a go-to expert for the team on complex accounting matters, ensuring correct application of GAAP and sound judgment on non-routine transactions.
  • Lead the audits – plan for and manage annual audits, serving as a key partner to the external audit team.
  • Partner cross-functionally – work closely with others in the finance department and operations teams to support accurate reporting and shared goals.
  • Support system and process change – play a key role in the Oracle EBS-to-Fusion ERP migration and the Avalara sales tax implementation, helping design, test, and operationalize new workflows.
  • Take on the ad hoc – perform special analysis and projects as needed, managing multiple competing priorities and deadlines at once.
  • Champion change – help the department adopt new systems, tools, and ways of working as Power Design continues to grow.

Here's What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including prior experience directly managing and developing a team.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA is a plus.
  • Public accounting experience is preferred.
  • A strong technical accountant with a deep understanding of GAAP, accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations – and the ability to do the work, not just review it.
  • A natural process-builder who is comfortable stepping into workflows that aren't yet fully documented, learning them quickly, improving them, and writing them down.
  • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented – you catch what others miss and hold yourself and your team to a high standard of accuracy.
  • A true leader who owns outcomes and elevates the team, rather than acting as a go-between who simply passes information along.
  • Adaptable and comfortable with change; you thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where priorities shift and processes evolve.
  • A proven multitasker who can manage several projects and deadlines simultaneously without letting things slip.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Experience with Oracle (EBS and/or Fusion) is preferred; prior experience supporting an ERP implementation or migration is a strong plus.
  • Sales and use tax experience is preferred; familiarity with Avalara or a similar tax engine is a plus.
  • Demonstrate and uphold Power Design's core values, which include integrity, accountability, teamwork, innovation, and growth.
