The Finance & Commercial Risk team plays a critical role in supporting operational and strategic decision-making, ensuring financial accuracy, managing commercial and contractual risk, and partnering closely with leadership to drive strong business outcomes.


The Accounting Manager provides strategic financial leadership and oversees district accounting operations, ensuring strong internal controls, reliable reporting, and effective execution of core accounting processes. This role is ideal for a proven people leader who can develop talent, drive operational excellence, and ensure accounting activities are completed in alignment with company policies, regulatory requirements, and business needs.

Responsibilities

People Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team by setting clear expectations and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and growth
  • Delegate and coordinate activities effectively, supporting the development of team members through mentoring and guidance

Oversight of Core Accounting Functions

  • Oversee, monitor, and be accountable for key accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end/year-end close
  • Ensure accounting submissions and financial deliverables are completed accurately and on time; follow up on issues, problems, and discrepancies

Reporting, Insights, and Business Support

  • Deliver timely financial reporting and provide insights that support leadership decision-making, including ad hoc analysis as needed
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and performance drivers, providing forward-looking analysis to help the district anticipate issues and capitalize on opportunities
  • Lead planning and forecasting cycles, ensuring alignment with district and corporate goals

Controls, Compliance, and Audit

  • Manage the district financial cycle and working capital in accordance with company policies, recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • Maintain strong internal controls and oversee audits (internal/external as applicable), compliance activities, and required regulatory documentation
  • Oversee required documentation (e.g., insurance, bonding, SDI, workers compensation, statutory declarations, lien waivers) to ensure it is complete and maintained appropriately

Process & System Improvement

  • Drive accounting system and process improvements to enhance accuracy, scalability, and operational efficiency

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership/supervisory experience managing an accounting function or team
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
  • Construction or related industry experience preferred


Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
  • Effective verbal and written communication, including the ability to present financial information to leadership
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail and deadline discipline
  • ERP and reporting tool proficiency; Oracle preferred

The estimated salary range for this role is $117,000 - $151,500, based on your experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be confirmed as part of a personalized offer.
