SUMMARY
The Accounting Manager will maintain and safeguard the financial records of the organization with the highest level of accuracy, timeliness and professionalism, while balancing a hands-on approach that supports the day-to-day operations as well as the long-range strategic goals of the leadership team, all to ensure that our organization remains a viable entity for the benefit of the community and our dedicated employees. The Accounting Manager will proactively recommend, develop and implement program, process and organizational improvement strategies across the accounting function. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager will be a key member of the management team of San Diego Theatres.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Analysis, planning, development, maintenance and execution of accounting, budgetary, and financial services.
- Responsible for day-to-day accounting and financial management, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger, preparation of various monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Build and maintain a strong accounting team to ensure that SDT’s general accounting and financial operations are efficiently run and our processes are compliant with applicable laws and regulations
- Oversees the month-end and year-end closing processes including the preparation of all period-end journal entries and supporting schedules and reports for key balance sheet, revenue and expense accounts.
- Oversees the preparation and recording of all revenue, expense and balance sheet transactions, including cash deposits, bills and related transactions.
- Ensures accurate and timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts and bank reconciliations.
- Manages events financial activity, pre- and post-event, including but not limited to extensive communication with Operations team and show promoters, event tracking, invoicing, settlement, preparing wire schedules and wire requests, and actively participating on event-related planning teams
- Prepares monthly financial statements, budget-to-actual reports and statistical reports. Provides analysis for unusual variances and account balances.
- Prepares and ensures accurate and timely preparation and submission of sales & use tax reports, annual 1099`s, state and federal withholding statements and all other tax and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Prepares and ensures the accurate and timely preparation and submission of quarterly music license fees and event state and federal withholdings.
- Oversees preparation, transmission, and reconciliation of payroll processing ensuring that compensation is calculated in accordance with established rates, policies and labor agreements. Ensures annual W-2 reporting and timely distribution to employees. Maintains records in compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Maintains system of records for all financial, AP and AR data within Sage Intacct. Maintains system of records for all financial related event data within VenueArc. Maintains system of records for all payroll data within Paycom.
- Ensures timely assistance, cooperation and support of auditing of the corporation`s records by collecting data, analyzing information and preparing schedules.
- Actively supports Director of Finance in the preparation of the annual budget, working with departmental managers to ensure timely and complete budget submissions of departmental budgets.
- Mentors, trains and develops accounting staff. Assigns and reviews staff’s work.
- Compiles statistics, provides analysis and recommendations to Director of Finance and CFO.
- Provides timely awareness of potential and/or pending issues, concerns, vulnerabilities, or other matters which may impact San Diego Theatres.
- Provides insights, recommendations and roadmaps to implementation of financial, accounting, budgetary systems, infrastructure, controls and reporting as opportunities arise. Specific areas to include accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, cash management, general ledger, balancing/reconciling of assets and liabilities, month and year end close-out financial and fund reports.
- Provides additional financial, administrative or support services as assigned by Director of Finance.
- Based upon the event calendar, a flexible schedule or nontraditional work week may require a balance of evenings, weekends, and holidays.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position currently supervises two full-time staff. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor`s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in accounting; and seven (7) years of increasingly responsible accounting and fiscal management position; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Not-for-profit experience a plus. Significant experience with Sage Intacct and Paycom Payroll systems a plus. Must have exceptional Excel proficiency.
ACCOUNTING SKILLS
Strong understanding and working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
