Key Job Responsibilities Include:
Perform and oversee general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and inventory accounting of multiple business units.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Ensure timely and accurate financial close processes
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and period forecasts
Support long‑term financial planning aligned with the co‑op’s strategic goals
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and filing requirements
Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies
Coordinate year‑end audits and liaise with external auditors
Support risk management and fraud prevention initiatives
Prepare financial information for management, board, and members
Support patronage allocations, equity accounts, and member dividends (where applicable)
Ensure transparency and accountability consistent with co‑operative values
Supervise and develop accounting staff
Assign work, set priorities, and ensure deadlines are met
Foster a collaborative, service‑oriented team culture
Support onboarding, training, and knowledge transfer within the team
Identify opportunities for efficiency, automation, and improved controls
Support system implementations or upgrades
Who you are:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
Minimum 6+ years of accounting experience
Previous supervisory or leadership experience
Experience in a co‑operative, retail, agriculture, energy, or member‑owned organization
Experience with inventory‑based accounting
Familiarity with Canadian accounting standards and taxation
Strong technical accounting and financial analysis.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Leadership and people‑management capability
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non‑financial stakeholders
Strong organizational and time‑management skills
Sound judgment and integrity
Commitment to co‑operative values and member service
CPA designation (or working toward completion) is considered an asset
