Job Description
Reports directly to the Controller. Responsible for assisting with the accounting and other daily functions of the accounting office. Oversees two accounts payable staff. The accounting office is responsible for maintaining general accounting records, financial reporting, student billing and collections, cash disbursements, cash receipts and payroll.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to)
- Preparation of monthly journal entries.
- Preparation of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Supports Controller and Senior Accounting Manager with year-end close, including various reconciliations, accruals and preparation of year-end closing entries.
- Supports Controller and Senior Accounting Manager with preparation for the annual audits.
- Oversees accounts payable, which includes analysis of invoices for accuracy and eligibility of payment prior to Controller’s signature.
- Maintains the chart of accounts.
- Preparation of tax reporting, which include but not limited sales tax returns, state/federal withholding reporting, year-end reporting, such as 1099s and 592s
- Monitors internal compliance and communicates accounting policies and procedures to schools/departments, as needed.
- Collaborates with the Senior Accounting Manager in project accounting functions and maintains accurate payment records for reporting purposes.
- Collaborates with the Payroll Accounting Manager on monthly and quarterly reconciliations.
- Assists with various projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Accounting or finance preferred
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, CPA preferred
- Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, tax and labor laws, and accounting best practices required
- Experience with various accounting software required
- Excellent excel skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office required
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL CONDITIONS (include but are not limited to)
- Office environment with exposure to toner, white out, cleaning fluids, office equipment noise, talking, air conditioning and heating
- Prolonged periods of sitting
- Occasional walking
- Reach at, above or below shoulder level to reach equipment, files, or materials
- Manipulation of computer keyboard and/or ten-key
- Utilization of computer monitor, telephone, copier machine and other office equipment
- Pushing/pulling open and closed doors, cabinets and drawers
- Kneeling, stooping and/or crouching to reach files or materials
- Lift file boxes weighing up to 10lbs or more on occasion
