Job Description

Location: Remote - Thousand Oaks, CA (EST preferred)

Employment Type: Contingent Worker (Contract, W2)

Contract Length: 9 months (possible extension)

Compensation: $53/$58 per hour (based on experience)



Summary of the Role

Join the Global Cost Accounting team for a big biopharma leader, responsible for consolidating and analyzing global inventory balances and cost of sales across multiple manufacturing sites. You will oversee key inventory accounting functions, manage outsourced partners, and support process improvements as the company transitions to S4 HANA. The ideal candidate brings strong SAP/S4 HANA skills, significant cost accounting expertise, and self-motivation in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform inventory accounting for select manufacturing sites
  • Manage and review work completed by outsourced providers supporting accounting functions
  • Support master data management and related activities
  • Prepare, review, and reconcile complex journal entries, general ledger accounts, and SAP/consolidation tool data
  • Create and update process maps, SOPs, and training documentation
  • Prepare and review audit schedules; respond to internal and external audit inquiries
  • Develop and review advanced financial schedules, footnotes, month-end flash reports, and accounting memos
  • Lead or review controls and reporting including inventory reserves, standard costing, and capacity analysis
  • Drive process improvements and support digital integration projects
  • Consolidate, analyze, and report global inventory balances, performing detailed variance analysis
  • Participate in system testing and support for the ERP upgrade to S4 HANA

Required Experience & Skills

  • SAP and S4 HANA experience
  • Cost accounting expertise with a large company
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP accounting
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative and ability to work hands-on without constant supervision
  • Ability to manage outsourced provider relationships
  • Experience preparing and reviewing complex financial schedules and audit materials

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of general, intercompany, and cost accounting experience using SAP/S4 HANA
  • Corporate-level public company accounting experience
  • Experience driving and implementing change and leading through collaboration
  • Experience managing outsourced partnerships
  • Financial system optimization, improvement and implementation experience
  • Knowledgeable in US GAAP and Foreign Currency transaction accounting
  • Experience with other accounting areas such as intercompany, cash, or investments

Top 3 Must Have Skills

1. US GAAP Accounting and cost accounting (Big 4 experience and CPA preferred)

2. SAP & S4 HANA experience

3. Cost accounting experience with a large company

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Perform inventory accounting and manage outsourced work
  • Support master data and process documentation
  • Review journal entries, ledgers and assist with audits
  • Prepare and review advanced financial and month-end reports
  • Lead or review controls, reporting, and handle special projects
  • Consolidate, analyze, and report inventory data by product/site and support ERP upgrade testing

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree or
  • Master degree and 2 years of experience or
  • Bachelor degree and 4 years of experience or
  • Associate degree and 10 years of experience or
  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of experience
