Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the fiscal functions of the Quapaw Nation to ensure financial and accounting policies, functions, resources and programs are maintained in accordance with established laws, regulations, policies, procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards. This position will support Accounting and Finance by providing a strong sense of urgency with the ability to multi-task, take initiative, and follow-through.
essential Job Functions:
- Record and process accounting transactions related to enterprise units and grants awarded to the Nation, including but not limited to payroll allocations and related expenses.
- Maintain and manage the computerized financial accounting system using MIP Fund Accounting, ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Review, verify, and validate the accuracy of calculations and business transactions recorded by accounting staff.
- Identify discrepancies, notify appropriate management personnel, and prepare clear written explanations and supporting documentation.
- Communicate all accounting concerns, issues, and discrepancies to the Accounting Director in a timely manner.
- Prepare and assist in the development of grant and departmental budgets; track and analyze actual performance against approved budgets; and assist with budget modifications as necessary.
- Maintain organized and complete financial and program related records in accordance with record retention requirements.
- Compile financial reports, trial balances, schedules, and supporting documentation for annual financial and regulatory audits.
- Assist with inventory control procedures and the tracking and recording of fixed assets.
- Prepare, review, and analyze month end general ledger reconciliations and supporting documentation.
- Produce financial statement analyses, including trend reports and budget variance explanations.
- Prepare financial statements, management reports, special analyses, and informational reports; provide recommendations for operational improvements to department leadership.
- Ensure all accounting processes, financial reports, and documentation comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Assist the Accounting Director with the preparation, compilation, and presentation of organizational budgets.
- Assist in financial, regulatory, and grant related audits.
- Ensure compliance with Tribal, Federal, and State reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Assist the Accounting Director with the preparation and entry of all general ledger journal entries required for month end closing, including payroll, depreciation, accruals, liabilities, and general expenses.
- Provide timely and accurate financial analysis and operating statistics to support departmental decision making.
- Demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills while working with staff and leadership.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Maintain a current driver’s license in good standing and qualify under the tribe's insurance policy.
Non-essential Job Functions:
- Provide backup support to other accounting staff during peak workload periods or employee absences.
- Participate in cross departmental meetings or committees when accounting input is needed.
- Perform minor administrative accounting tasks related to filing, scanning, or record organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, auditing, and financial analysis.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in accounting and financial analysis.
- Experience in fund accounting in a governmental or non-profit environment preferred.
