Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead our accounting department for a well-established law firm in Oakland. This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days in office and 2 days remote. The ideal candidate will have prior law firm accounting experience and proven team management skills to oversee our growing accounting operations.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

• Supervise and mentor a team
• Provide guidance, training, and performance management for accounting staff
• Collaborate with consultative CPA on complex accounting matters

Law Firm Accounting Operations

• Oversee high-volume accounts payable operations and vendor management
• Manage trust accounting and IOLTA compliance in accordance with state bar regulations
• Administer pooled accounts and litigation funds with proper documentation and controls
• Ensure accurate cash-based accounting using QuickBooks
• Prepare and review quarterly financial statements and reports

Financial Management & Compliance

• Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with legal industry regulations
• Monitor cash flow and fund management across multiple client accounts
• Coordinate with external CPA for year-end processes and audit support
• Implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures specific to law firms

Required Qualifications

• Law firm accounting experience required - minimum 3-5 years
• Team management/supervisory experience - minimum 2+ years leading accounting staff
• Trust accounting and IOLTA compliance knowledge and experience
• QuickBooks proficiency - advanced level required
• Strong understanding of cash-based accounting principles
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Knowledge of legal industry regulations and compliance requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA certification or working toward certification
• Experience with pooled accounts and litigation fund management
• Advanced Excel skills and financial reporting experience
• Familiarity with legal practice management software
