Job Description

Northwest Real Estate Capital Corporation (NWRECC) is a nonprofit organization that manages affordable housing across eight states. We're looking for an Accounting Intern to join our corporate Accounting team in Boise, Idaho.

If you're studying accounting and want to see how the work happens in practice, this internship will put you alongside experienced accounting professionals who will help you build your skills and understand how a real accounting department operates.

You'll also have the opportunity to work under the supervision of an Idaho-licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA), allowing you to gain professional accounting experience that may be applied toward future CPA licensure requirements.

What You'll Do

Depending on current projects and where we are in the monthly accounting cycle, you may:

  • Help with accounts payable and receivable and follow transactions through the accounting cycle
  • Assist with bank and account reconciliations and research discrepancies with guidance from the team
  • Learn how invoices, payments, and reimbursements are reviewed, coded, approved, and recorded
  • Assist with monthly journal entries, management fees, and financial reporting
  • Organize, compare, and verify financial data using Excel
  • Review financial documents for completeness and accuracy
  • Work with Yardi and other accounting and property management systems
  • Assist with audit preparation, including gathering documentation and supporting audit requests
  • Help with special projects and process-improvement initiatives based on the Accounting team's current needs
  • Attend Accounting team meetings and learn about different career paths within the profession

Requirements

What You'll Bring

  • You're currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • You've completed or are currently completing introductory accounting coursework
  • You're comfortable working with numbers and Microsoft Excel
  • You have strong attention to detail and follow projects through to completion
  • You're organized, curious, and willing to ask questions as you learn
  • You can work both independently and as part of a team
  • You communicate clearly, both in writing and in conversation
  • You can appropriately handle confidential financial information

No prior professional accounting experience is required.

What You'll Gain

  • Hands-on experience applying classroom concepts to real financial work
  • Practical knowledge of AP, AR, reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and the monthly accounting cycle
  • Stronger Excel and financial data analysis skills
  • Experience with accounting and property management software
  • Exposure to audit preparation and special accounting projects
  • Insight into accounting within affordable housing and property management
  • Day-to-day guidance, regular check-ins, and feedback from experienced Accounting professionals
  • Professional accounting experience under the supervision of an Idaho-licensed CPA that may be applied toward Idaho CPA licensure experience requirements

CPA licensure requirements vary based on an applicant's applicable pathway and circumstances. This internship is not intended to fulfill the full experience requirement for CPA licensure. Candidates are responsible for satisfying all applicable education, examination, experience, and other requirements established by the Idaho State Board of Accountancy.

Schedule, Location & Compensation

This is an in-person internship at our corporate office located at 210 W. Mallard Dr., Ste. A, Boise, ID 83706, running from January 11 through April 27, 2027.

The intern is expected to work approximately 15–20 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility around class schedules and the Accounting department's needs.

If your school offers academic credit for internships, we're happy to work with you on the applicable requirements.
