Job Description

As the Controller, you will lead full-cycle accounting and financial close, ensuring accurate, timely reporting, strong controls, and compliance with ASPE, Canadian tax, and statutory requirements. This role delivers meaningful financial insights and management reporting that connect operational performance to strategic objectives. To excel in this role, you will develop people, modernize finance processes and systems, and use data and technology to drive insight.

Location: 54 Morton Avenue East, Brantford, ON
Dedicated Day Shift: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday

Financial Close, Reporting & Compliance

• Lead full-cycle accounting and own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close with a focus on accuracy, predictability, and reduced close-cycle time.
• Design and maintain standardized close procedures, clear ownership, and strong reconciliations.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with ASPE and company policy; coordinate year-end working papers and support external audit engagements.
• Ensure compliance with Canadian tax and all statutory requirements, including HST/GST, payroll obligations, CRA remittances, and required filings in Canada and the United States.

Analytics, Insights & Business Partnering

• Define and deliver key financial metrics to senior leadership that align operational performance with strategic objectives.
• Develop clear, analytic management reporting that identifies trends, risks, and opportunities beyond static financial statements.
• Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-finance leaders.
• Possess a strong emphasis on accuracy, transparency, and system-driven processes.
• Advance the use of ERP and modern finance tools to enable scalable, reliable costing, reporting, and controls.

Systems, Controls & Process Improvement

• Oversee ERP processes related to accounting, ensuring accurate data capture, consistent master data, and scalable reporting structures.
• Champion digitization, automation, and improved reporting tools (e.g., ERP enhancements, BI tools).
• Design, document, and maintain internal controls while minimizing administrative burden.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to improve order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, and related processes.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, coach, and develop the accounting and customs teams; set priorities, manage workload, and promote accountability.
• Foster a culture of accuracy, efficiency, curiosity, continuous improvement, and service-oriented partnering.
• Balance strong financial controls with responsiveness to business needs.

Skills and Experience

• 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including senior responsibility in a manufacturing environment.
• Advanced capability in inventory and WIP accounting, and margin/profitability analytics.
• Demonstrated success modernizing accounting processes by leveraging scalable, system-driven tools and workflows.
• High analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex data, identify root causes, and communicate insights clearly.
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with operations, engineering, supply chain, and sales.
• Strong systems aptitude, including advanced Excel, structured financial models, and exposure to reporting/BI tools.
• Proven people leadership experience, with the ability to develop and mentor finance professionals.
Work Conditions & Compensation
• Located onsite in Brantford, Ontario with occasional travel to other locations within Southwestern Ontario.
• Salaried compensation range: $140,000-$150,000 with annual reviews.

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• CPA designation in good standing, or actively pursuing with significant relevant experience.
• Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and the Power Platform.
