Accounting Clerk
Platte Valley Companies

Perform a variety of routine and some non-routine clerical/accounting functions in accordance with standard procedures in one or more of the following areas: general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable or related financial area. Reconcile some bank accounts, record information and balance general or subsidiary ledgers, process and compile segments of monthly general ledger close. Communicate with associates to resolve issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
a. Responsible for administering the Account Payable function.
b. Participate in general ledger coding (incl. allocation to affiliates if necessary) of invoices outstanding to be paid.
c. Research, communicate and resolve differences in accounts payable records and invoices.
d. Ensures necessary authorizations have been received before payment in disbursed.
e. Maintain ACH information for proper electronic payment of invoices and employee reimbursement.
f. Monitor and verify data entry of invoices and employee expense reimbursement reports.
g. Organize and ensure proper timely payment of all invoices and employee expense reimbursement reports.
h. Report preparation and distribution as needed.
i. Monitor and maintain 1099 NEC/Misc reporting.
j. Oversee and assist in year-end 1099 NEC/Misc reporting.
k. Other duties as assigned.
l. Compile quarterly sales and use tax information.
m. Calculate use tax necessary to be paid on invoices.
n. Remit necessary use tax.
o. Report timely to state and local agencies sales and use tax information.
p. Reconcile various bank accounts on a monthly basis.
q. Reconcile various general ledger accounts on a monthly and quarterly basis.
r. Research, communicate and resolve differences in accounting records.
s. Act as a secretary to the various committees, gather & track data to be presented, record & prepare minutes, if necessary.
t. Gather data and complete preparation of various meeting packets, if necessary.

REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be placed in the I, II, or III level that best aligns with their education, experience and qualifications.

To qualify for an Accounting Clerk I:
• Completed course work with an accounting emphasis or 1 year or experience equivalent preferred.

To qualify for an Accounting Clerk II:
• Completed course work with accounting emphasis or 1-3 years’ experience equivalent.

To qualify for an Accounting Clerk III:
• 2-year degree with accounting emphasis or 3-5 years’ experience equivalent.
A qualified Accounting Clerk candidate will posses the following skills and abilities:
1. Math proficiency and aptitude.
2. General areas of competency: decision making, dependability, development, environmental safety, evaluation skills, interpersonal skills, prioritizing, problem solving, team skills and time management.
3. Demonstrated record of achievement in social and/or extracurricular and leadership skills.
4. Demonstrated aptitude to handle sensitive operational transactions.
5. Professional appearance.
6. Effective oral and written communication skills (including telephone).
7. Self-sufficient/self-starting.
8. Ability to adjust to flexible hours.
9. PC experience required.
10. Microsoft Word and Excel experience.
11. Must be capable of working with and maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information.

Physical Requirements:
Light Work - exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Reaching, fingering, grasping, repetitive motions, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, lifting, climbing, kneeling, talking, hearing, pulling, pushing, thinking, concentrating and interacting with others.
