Job Description

Join McAteer as an Accounting Clerk, providing essential accounting and administrative support, primarily in Accounts Payable, and contributing to the smooth operations of financial processes. Responsibilities include processing invoices and payments, administering cheque and electronic transactions, and maintaining vendor records, while ensuring accuracy and responsive client service. We are seeking a detail-oriented team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering high-quality results.

This role is currently based out of McAteer’s Markham, Ontario office located at 45 McIntosh Drive, Markham, ON. Please note that the office is expected to relocate to 2255 Sheppard Ave E Ste 202, North York, in the fall. The successful candidate will work from the new location once the transition is completed.

The Accounting Clerk will:

  • Check and review payment information on cheque/DD requisitions, verifying the approvals on the requisitions

  • Enter invoices into the Sage50 accounting software

  • Print cheques and distribute the cheques to the corresponding staff and vendors

  • Process payments through Electronic Transfer Funds/Bill Payments and send email notifications to the payees

  • To obtain signatures for cheques and distribute them to vendors or corresponding staff

  • Maintain the vendor listings for all clients and ensure the information is up to date

  • Monitor/maintain the cheque inventory

  • Handle all A/P related inquiries and file A/P related documentations

  • Be responsible for the logistics of the documents on the signing desk and sending out reminders to signing officers if there is backlog in the signing tray

  • Handle contribution deposits (cheques, EFT deposits and Bill Payments from Admin)

  • Handle non-contribution deposits from all sources

  • Handle the monthly contribution receipt cut-off process for some clients

  • Support special projects as assigned

To be successful as an Accounting Clerk with McAteer, you will need:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related field such as Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration

  • 1 - 2 years of professional experience in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Accounts Payable

  • Sound proficiency in the MS Office Suite, specifically MS Excel.

  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and manage time effectively.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting practices and a high degree of accuracy when working with numerical and financial data.

  • Excellent grammatical, spelling, and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet strict deadlines.

  • The ability to work well in a team environment and independently.

  • To provide exceptional client service by promptly addressing inquiries.

  • Professional experience with accounting programs like Sage or QuickBooks would be considered an asset.

  • Fluency in both French and English would be considered an asset.

The base salary for this position is between $45,000 - $50,000 annually.

This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation (i.e. annual bonus, commission). The actual base salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
