The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), Director/Chief of Staff, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Finance Section, Accounting and Cash Management/Fees, is seeking to hire an individual to serve as an Accounting & Fiscal Admin. Career Trainee (AFACT), receives training for a period of six to twelve months in performing professional accounting and auditing duties as an Expenditure Control accountant. The ideal candidate for this position will be organized, detailed, and possess the ability to adapt to change in a collaborative, fast paced environment. The ideal candidate will also need to be able to communicate effectively verbally, electronically and in writing with both internal and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions

  • Receives training for a period of six to twelve months in performing professional accounting
    duties for the Director/Chief of Staff, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Finance Section, Accounting
    and Cash Management/Fees;
  • Receives training in the reconciliation of the Agency mainframe Cash Management System to log maintained on Excel spreadsheets to the Comptroller's monthly fund ledgers and receipts ledgers ;
  • Receives training in the recording of accounts receivable ledgers for various Agency accounts;
  • Receives training in the preparation of various financial status reports and settlements for use by Agency management personnel for planning and budgeting.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties
    enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or an allied field.
  • This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Prefers ability to prepare comprehensive written and oral reports.
  • Prefers ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Prefers ability to profit from training received in the designated area of state government.
  • Prefers ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and
    agency representatives.
  • Prefers the ability to utilize a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel
    software.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to travel.
  • Requires a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Requires the ability to pass a name-based background check.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work
    overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work
    evenings and weekends.
