Your role at Clorox:
As the Accounting and Controls Manager for the Europe business unit, you will lead and manage various aspects of the monthly and quarterly accounting close processes, both the statutory (IFRS) legal reporting and the US GAAP reporting requirements of our legal and management entities. In this role, you will also lead the implementation, monitoring and maintenance of effective internal controls within the organization, manage the external audit and support management reporting and analysis for the Europe business unit of The Clorox Company. This role is a strong operational accounting and reporting role.
This position reports to AMEA Regional Controller with a dotted reporting to Europe Finance Director. This position has three direct reports.
In this role, you will:
Maintain timely and accurate recording of all accounting transactions for the Europe legal entities. Ensure compliance with local tax laws and regulations
- Lead the month-end financial closing in NetSuite for the Europe business unit
- Manage the recording of accounting entries and accruals to ensure accurate recording of financial information in accordance with UK and US GAAP.
- Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures in line with Corporate policies and best practice to minimize the risk of fraud or insufficient controls
- Work closely with Customer Service team on the seamless execution of the Order to Cash process. In particular, ensure that all Key Accounts financial deductions and cash applications are processed in a timely and accurate basis
- Manage the preparation of all government and regulatory reporting - VAT returns, EC and IntraStat returns, HMRC and customs returns
- Work closely with the global Tax team on all tax matters including UK tax strategy, intercompany transfer pricing, VAT and Customs reporting, Corporation tax
- Transfer Pricing – work closely with global Tax team on maintaining transfer pricing in line with the global Tax policies including annual reconciliations
- Banking and Credit Card management – administrative lead on all banking activities including user setup and maintenance, bank transfers, intercompany payments, and credit card applications
- Administrative control and management of Concur expense reporting and invoice processing systems
- FX maintenance. Ensuring correct month rates recorded in NetSuite ERP and Anaplan reporting systems.
- Ensure financial systems reconciliations are performed accurately and timely on a monthly basis
Create and present financial reporting to support the Europe Leadership Team in the financial management of the legal entity and Europe PMU
- Own the execution and sign-off of the monthly and quarterly close and SAP S4 / Central Finance consolidation processes for UK and US GAAP reporting.
- Work with Finance colleagues on understanding the brand goals and aspirations of all budgets and forecasts
- Provide insights and explanations on the key drivers of variance for financial analytics
- Manage the management cross charges and quarterly/annual legal intercompany cross charges (AMEA HQ management region and HK)
- Own and manage the cash flow forecasting working with the Europe Finance Director. Ensure legal entity is adequately funded and work with Intercompany partners and Corporate Treasury on the payments between legal entities
Manages the external audit and statutory accounting processes for our UK legal entity
- Lead the coordination and execution of the annual external audit
- Coordinate the audit process to ensure auditor requests are addressed quickly and accurately to ensure an efficient and speedy audit process
- Work with external tax advisors to ensure accurate tax compliance and input to Statutory Audit
- Develop plans to address any audit findings
- Manage Company Secretarial responsibilities
Ensures best practice internal controls within the Europe business unit
- Lead the implementation, monitoring and maintenance of internal controls within the organization working with cross-functional teams and external consultants.
- Continue to strengthen controls around record-to-report, procure-to-pay, and order-to-cash processes
- Monitor and resolve identified gaps in internal controls and Clorox policies
People Management – 3 direct reports
- Manage the work of the Senior Financial Accountant, Accounts Assistant and Accounting Analyst ensuring that work and deliverables are completed timely and with high quality
- Provide coaching, training and development to staff and facilitate the creation of an environment where all employees are engaged and inspired to excel
What we look for:
Years and Type of Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in finance and/or accounting and at least 2 years in the role of Accounting or Finance Manager.
- Minimum of 3 years managing all aspects of a team of professionals
- Solid understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS
- US GAAP experience preferred but not required
- Strong understanding of internal controls and experience in internal control improvement
- Global multinational FMCG experience is preferred
- eCommerce (e.g. Amazon) and online trade experience is preferred
- Company Secretary experience preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge in financial systems lead such Netsuite ERP and Concur (Expenses and Invoicing) system or similar ERP
- Experience in external and government reporting – HMRC (UK Revenue); EU; Customs and Excise, Corporation Tax, VAT
- Experience in foreign currency accounting and reporting
- Experience in multinational business and cross-boarder intercompany transactions is highly desirable
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to independently prioritize, promote a team environment, work in a cross functional environment with the ability to influence other functional areas and form solid relationships with other teams and work groups.
- Superior communication skills with the ability to present financial concepts and results to senior management and non finance audiences
- Flexibility to respond quickly and professionally to multiple requests while adhering to strict reporting deadlines
- Coach, train and develop direct reports
- Proven leadership and project management skills with solution-oriented mindset.
Education Level/Degree:
- Fully Qualified Accountant (CA, ACCA, CIMA or International Equivalent)
