Activities

We are seeking an Accounting Advisor – Operations to join our Finance organization in the U.S. This role sits within Accounting Operations and partners closely with plant operations, FP&A, and global finance teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. The position plays a key role in month-end close, plant cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and continuous improvement initiatives.This role requires a regular presence at the La Porte plant (1–2 days per week), with the remaining time based at the Houston office

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounting Operations & Close
    • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and annual close activities, including accruals, journal entry review, and account reconciliations.
    • Ensure financial results are accurate, timely, and compliant with IFRS, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), TotalEnergies accounting policies, and corporate reporting standards.
    • Review and validate journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared through global finance operations.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and ensure all account balances are fully supported and explained monthly.
    • Prepare weekly forecasts and month-end financial reports, including variance analysis versus budget and forecast.
    • Provide ad hoc financial and cost reports to plant management and corporate stakeholders.
    • Review general ledger postings and support reporting used for annual budget preparation.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting & Long-Term Planning
    • Support fixed and variable cost budgeting and forecasting for plant operations.
    • Compile and input annual operating budgets into SAP.
    • Support preparation of the Long-Term Plan (LTP) for plant costs, including analysis of cost drivers, trends, and variances.
    • Perform month-end SAP work order settlements and activity revaluations.
  • Business Partnership & Stakeholder Support
    • Act as a finance partner to plant management, FP&A, and business teams, providing insights to support decision-making.
    • Provide accounting support for the La Porte plant.
    • Collaborate with commercial, procurement, logistics, sales, and customer service teams to support business activities.
  • Process Improvement & Change Management
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of process improvements and best practices within Accounting Operations.
    • Support change management initiatives, including the transition of activities to shared services environments.
    • Serve as an accounting subject-matter expert to support operational efficiency and accuracy across finance teams.
  • Compliance, Audit & Special Projects
    • Support internal and external audits, statutory reporting, and management reviews.
    • Perform periodic inventory observations and inventory valuation analysis.
    • Prepare and maintain detailed desk procedures for assigned areas of responsibility.
    • Participate in special projects and cross-functional initiatives as required.

Candidate Profile

Requirements:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within manufacturing, chemicals, or petrochemical environments.
  • Experience partnering with plant operations on cost management, budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning strongly preferred.
  • Big 4 public accounting experience combined with industry experience is a plus.
  • Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Office.
  • Solid understanding of IFRS; SOX experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across functions and global teams.
  • Comfortable operating in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
