Job Role: Accountant/Senior Bookkeeper

Compensation range: $1,800 AUD - $2,200 AUD / Monthly

Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement

Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: We are a Sydney-based Virtual CFO and accounting practice supporting 200+ small business clients across hospitality, construction & trade, fashion & retail, and startups/tech. The practice pairs CFO-level strategic advisory with hands-on bookkeeping, payroll and compliance delivery, under the positioning "Clarity. Control. Confidence." This role sits inside that delivery team, working closely with the practice's CFO/Director across a portfolio of clients.

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Bookkeeper/Accountant to manage end-to-end finance functions across multiple Australian client accounts. This role covers payroll, AP/AR, month-end, reconciliations, compliance support and financial reporting, with regular communication with clients and the CFO/Director.

The ideal candidate has strong Xero and Australian accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines independently.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll

• Process payroll for multiple clients, including timesheet/rostering data from Deputy; handle STP reporting, superannuation and PAYG withholding

Accounts Payable

• Manage AP for multiple clients — bill entry, approvals, supplier reconciliations and payment runs

Accounts Receivable

• Invoicing, debtor follow-up and AR ledger maintenance across client accounts

Month-End

• Prepare and close month-end for multiple clients— accruals, prepayments and journal entries

Balance Sheet Reconciliations

• Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly, including bank, credit card, loans, GST/PAYG control accounts and superannuation payable

Multi-Entity / Intercompany

• Process intercompany transactions and eliminations across related entities where required (not essential, but well regarded)

Compliance Support

• Assist with GST/BAS preparation and other periodic compliance obligations

Reporting

• Support the CFO/Director with client reporting, ad hoc analysis and reporting-ready financial data

Systems

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records in Xero and other client platforms as required

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• 4+ years' bookkeeping/accounting experience, ideally in a multi-client practice environment
• Working knowledge of Xero (MORE+ is a Xero-certified practice)
• Comfortable managing competing deadlines across multiple clients at once
• High attention to detail, particularly in reconciliations
• Strong written and spoken English for direct client and CFO communication

Preferred skills:

• Multi-entity / intercompany accounting experience
• Experience with Deputy or similar rostering/workforce software
• Prior exposure to Australian payroll, superannuation and BAS/GST compliance
• Experience working directly, 1:1, with a CFO or business owner
• Bookkeeping/accounting qualification (e.g. Cert IV, diploma or degree)
