Reporting to the Manager, Retail Rebates and Agency Accounting, the Accountant is responsible for the accounting, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting of rebate and agency programs across North America. This role supports accurate financial reporting through month-end close activities, account reconciliations, rebate analysis, research and validation and cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare month-end entries accurately and timely
  • Reconcile and monitor assigned balance sheet and P&L accounts
  • Review and analyze financial transactions for accuracy and completeness
  • Ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures
  • Assist in preparing financial reporting for cross department and management use
  • Track, allocate, and account for rebates and commissions payments to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Work with Strategic Supply Managers to complete inventory protection programs. Following proper allocations of terms to locations and working capital adjustments
  • Coordinate with suppliers, retail branches, and Accounts Payable to assist in agency invoice coding and supplier account reconciliation
  • Partner with Strategic Supply Managers to obtain information about agency product changes, field pricing notifications, and commission accruals
  • Track and allocate agency liability owed compared to Supplier invoices received during the year to ensure proper accounting treatment and proper cash collection
  • Assist with researching discrepancies on monthly sales reports
  • Maintain amortization schedules for prepay discount, inventory reserves and rebate programs not currently built into the system
  • Complete monthly and annual inventory reconciliations with suppliers in accordance with agency agreements
  • Assist with internal and external audits
  • Support special projects and other initiatives assigned by Management
  • Participate in process improvement efforts, including implementation, testing, planning, and problem-solving activities related to SAP and Vistex system enhancements and transitions
  • Limited travel is possible for attendance at Regional/Divisional Meetings, visits to Branches, and attendance at training opportunities

What You'll Bring:

  • BS/BA degree in Accounting preferred; equivalent education will be considered
  • 2+ years of practical experience
  • Working knowledge with ERP systems, knowledge in SAP is an asset
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting practices
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Experience using Power Query for data transformation, automation, and reporting is a strong asset
  • Ability to build effective working relationships and collaborate across departments
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, integrity, and strong business ethics
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
