Duties and Responsibilities

The Accountant IV position is responsible for the daily reconciliation of reports to the Florida Planning, Accounting, and Ledger Management (PALM) system (i.e., Treasury) and credit card/automated clearing house (ACH) payment system, which entails verifying deposits in relation to the cash receipt system (CRS), Florida Real-time Vehicle Information System (FRVIS) and/or Online Registration and Identity Operating Network (ORION) transactions. The incumbent will use multiple systems/programs and correspond with local, field and regional office personnel, taxpayers, tax collector representatives and/or Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Troop representatives to reconcile, post revenue, and resolve collection/payment discrepancies to ensure the accurate accounting of fees received. The Accountant IV will also process requests for bank card credits received from department personnel and taxpayers in addition to reviewing credit/refund requests received from tax collectors and vendors. The incumbent will be cross trained to assist team members, when needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of State of Florida accounting policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of reconciliation process.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with internal and external customers, verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in reviewing, analyzing and reconciling data for compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to learn to navigate various processing systems (i.e., FRVIS, CRS, PALM, ORION, credit card/ACH payment system, etc.)
  • Ability to reconcile collections/revenue.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to identify problems, make and evaluate recommendations.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations using excel formulas.
  • Ability to work independently, yet cohesively within a team environment.
  • Ability to perform bank and account reconciliations.
  • Ability to maintain supporting documentation in an organized manner.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare ad hoc reports.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience reconciling accounts and verifying report data.
  • Experience in the field of bookkeeping or accounting.
  • Experience providing customer service.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel.

Note: Preference will be given to applicants with work experience in accounting/auditing with emphasis preparing bank and account reconciliations utilizing Microsoft Excel. Due to extensive customer interaction, the incumbent must have customer service experience.

Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
  • FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
