Requisition ID: 65766 Title: Accountant II- State and Local Taxation

M ain Objective:

Perform general accounting, reconciliation and reporting duties in conjunction with US State and Local Taxation (SALT), Canadian GST, 1099, 1042-S Backup Withholding Taxes, Business Licenses, Annual Reports and Tangible Personal Property Tax (TPPT)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting

  • Provide monthly and calendar year summary of sales and tax reports
  • Provide quarterly summary of annual reports filing status
  • Provide quarterly summary of business licenses filing status
  • Provide summary report of states with pending adjustments and amended returns due

Transactional Processes and Account Maintenance

  • Perform monthly tax reconciliations between Vertex tax engine and SAP ERP
  • Reconcile, prepare, and file GST, Sales, Use, Consumer’s Use, Excise Tax Returns
  • Reconcile, prepare, and file tangible personal property tax reports
  • Complete annual 1099 reconciliation and reports
  • Complete annual 1042-S reconciliation and reports
  • Respond to and/or assign email inquiries from the business, vendors and customers
  • Update material group numbers in SAP and/or Vertex
  • Map tax drivers to tax categories in Vertex
  • Assign material group numbers to new or existing materials

Audits: State, Local, IRS, TPPT, Unclaimed Property Reports, and Other Miscellaneous Audits

  • Prepare reports and templates
  • Respond timely to requests from auditors
  • Provide documentation to support transactions and tax calculated

Research and Analytics
• Perform state, local, and federal tax research regarding taxability of parts or services purchased and sold in the United States & Canada, and document results
• Perform tax research for parts or services purchased or sold in other countries when needed
Planning and Process Improvement Functions
• Identify and participate in planning system upgrades
• Identify and recommend process improvements to tax processes and reports
• Ensure effective internal controls are in place with respect to accuracy of accounting and protection of company data

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related Business/Economics required
• Minimum 2+ years of relevant work experience required

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
• Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• SAP experience preferred
• Vertex experience preferred
