The Accountant I is responsible for performing professional accounting and financial tasks within a department. This position involves processing financial transactions, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with state financial regulations and policies. The Accountant I will work closely with other financial staff to ensure accuracy and consistency in the agency’s financial operations.
Prepare and maintain financial records, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all transactions.
Assist in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts in accordance with state regulations and policies.
Reconcile accounts, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
Prepare journal entries and ensure all entries are properly documented and in compliance with state accounting standards.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
Familiarity with governmental accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes.
Proficient in accounting software (e.g., PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel) and standard office applications.
Skilled in preparing and presenting financial statements, budgets, and reports.
Understanding of state and federal financial regulations and accounting standards.
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
