Job Description

Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our team in Sale, Victoria.

The Accountant is responsible for the organisation’s financial services this includes budgets, end of month, grant acquittals, finance reporting, payroll relief, accounts payable, receivable and financial Auditing. The Accountant will work closely and under direction of the Executive Director Corporate Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate, timely and compliant financial records within the organisation’s financial management system.
  • Prepare organisational and program budgets, financial forecasts and associated reports for review and submission to the CEO.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, reconciliations and end-of-month financial processes, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial information.
  • Prepare grant acquittals and financial reports in accordance with funding agreements, contractual obligations and relevant compliance requirements.
  • Provide transparent and accurate financial reporting to the CEO, including monitoring expenditure against approved budgets and the organisation’s Instrument of Delegation.
  • Provide financial analysis, advice and support to the Executive Team, Board and program areas as required.
  • Provide relief support for weekly payroll processing, including superannuation, Single Touch Payroll (STP), PAYG withholding, salary packaging, taxation and payroll compliance.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including supplier payments, customer invoicing, receipting and the timely follow-up of outstanding accounts.
  • Monitor financial transactions and identify, investigate and report potential financial irregularities, fraud risks or control weaknesses.
  • Coordinate and assist with internal and external audit requirements, including the preparation of supporting documentation and liaison with auditors.
  • Maintain appropriate financial controls and ensure financial transactions are processed in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and delegated authorities.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems, accounting processes, transactional procedures, internal controls and reporting practices.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness of financial and payroll processes and support the implementation of agreed improvements.
  • Act as a key finance contact for program areas, providing timely and accurate advice on financial management, budgeting, payroll and reporting matters.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly finance meetings and contribute to effective financial planning and decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including management, employees, funding bodies, auditors, suppliers and service providers.
  • Ensure financial information is handled with a high level of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism and in accordance with legislative, regulatory and organisational requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years’ relevant experience in accounting or financial management.
  • Currently enrolled in, or working towards, a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) qualification.
  • Current Working with Children’s Check

  • Current Victorian Driver’s License
  • Satisfactory drug & alcohol screening
