Performs journeyman level professional accounting work, maintaiing essential components of the accounting operations. Controls work flow to ensure accuracy and compliance with guidelines, procedures, policies, and laws. This includes banking, accounts receivable, tax filings, purchasing cards, capital assets, payroll and treasury functions.
The work involves responsibility for performing complex accounting and auditing work, including the preparation of financial statements and analyses in accordance with standard professional accounting procedures. An employee in this class is responsible for reviewing and maintaining records manually and electronically, and providing support in the areas of audits, fixed assets, capital improvement projects and risk management. Work is performed under the general supervision of senior management with considerable leeway for independent judgment.
Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting; OR,
Associates Degree in Business or Accounting and two years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, including experience with a computerized accounting system, preferably in a governmental setting; OR,
High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, including experience with a computerized accounting system, preferably in a governmental setting.
Work is sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, etc. Also, there may be some occasional lifting and moving of boxes, reports, and files.
This position may require driving for this position whether driving a County owned or personal vehicle to conduct county business such as but not limited to attending conferences, meetings, or any other county related functions. Motor Vehicle Reports may be verified for valid driver’s license and that the driving record is compatible with the county’s driving criteria.
If a personal vehicle is operated for county business proper insurance is maintained as per Guilford County’s vehicle use policy.
