Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire an Accountant for the Office of Fiscal Management. This position will conduct analysis of semi-monthly activity reports from Office of Resource Conservation personnel for accuracy and allocability to various programs including federal grant projects; compile report information for coding to various programs including those used for federal reimbursement; maintain accurate salary level source information for personal services projections for the Office of Resource Conservation; reconcile accounting data with the Comptroller’s Office and the Office of Management and Budget; and prepare Division vendor payment documents for operation of Automotive Expenses for Office Director’s signature. Essential Functions

  • Under direction of the ORC Fiscal Officer, performs professional accounting work.
  • Performs personal services budgetary planning and control.
  • Examines payroll documents for accuracy.
  • Receives monthly billings from automotive fuel and repair vendors.
  • Prepares and updates monthly documents used in budget projections and the final budget.
  • Maintains complex capital and operating accounts for the Office of Resource Conservation.
  • Serves as designated lead worker.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of professional accounting and auditing theory, principles, methods, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations relating to state or non-state accounting or auditing procedures.
  • One (1) year of technical experience performing detailed work involving the application of accounting theory to routine accounting or auditing problems.
  • One (1) year of professional experience in accounting or budgetary planning and control.
