Exemption Status:
ExemptPerforms routine to moderately complex accounting work supporting the University’s general ledger and financial reporting processes. Responsibilities include preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and supporting month-end and year-end close activities and audits. Works under general supervision and follows established accounting procedures to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial records.
JOB DUTIES
- Prepares routine journal entries for asset, liability, revenue, and expense accounts by compiling and validating supporting financial data.
- Prepares monthly account reconciliations and ensures subsidiary ledgers agree to the general ledger.
- Identifies and resolves routine reconciling items using established procedures.
- Escalates complex, recurring, or unresolved accounting issues to the Accounting Manager.
- Assists with month-end and year-end processes, including preparation of assigned schedules and supporting documentation.
- Assists in preparation of recurring financial reports, and audit workpapers for annual financial statement and single audits. Serves as a liaison between the Business Office and various University departments and assists with questions and issues from respective departments.
- Responds to auditor inquiries for assigned items under direction of the Accounting Manager.
- Communicates with University departments to obtain documentation and resolve routine transaction questions.
- Ensures transactions are recorded in accordance with University policies and established accounting procedures. Assists in maintaining accounting internal controls by updating and documenting policies and procedures. Follows internal control procedures and accounting guidelines.

EDUCATION
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting from four-year college or university
Preferred:
EXPERIENCE
Required:
One to three years of accounting experience.
Preferred:
- Higher education experience
- Workday ERP experience
