The Salvation Army is hiring a detail oriented Accountant to support the financial integrity and daily accounting operations of the Quincy Area Command. This role works closely with the Finance Director and is responsible for cash management, revenue recognition, general ledger activity, and bank reconciliations across multiple programs, including the Kroc Center.

Position Details:

Employment Type: Full-time exempt, 40 hours/week

Pay Range: $45,860 to $56,927 per hour, commensurate with education and experience

The Accountant supports core nonprofit accounting functions, with a focus on cash receipts, deposits, journal entries, and month end close activities. This position ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with internal controls, and audit readiness while contributing to overall finance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

This role focuses on essential accounting functions while supporting a collaborative finance team environment:

  • Prepare and process daily cash and check deposits with accuracy and timeliness
  • Record cash receipts, donations, and revenue transaction in the general ledger
  • Prepare and post journal entries with proper supporting documentation
  • Maintain complete, audit ready financial records in compliance with internal controls
  • Ensure all cash receipts are accurately recorded and aligned with internal controls
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with month end and year end close processes
  • Provide backup support for accounts payable and receipt processing
  • Assist with internal and external audits, including documentation and reconciliations
  • Track and report campaign revenue, including Tree of Lights contributions
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to organizational and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with finance team members to ensure efficient accounting operations
  • Foster a respectful, professional, and team oriented work environment

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related business field required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in accounting, auditing, or financial operations

Technical Skills and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of general accounting principles (GAAP), cash handling, and revenue recognition
  • Experience with bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records
  • Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies efficiently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and support team functions as needed
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation
  • Successful completion of background and motor vehicle record checks
